Good guy. Was not a big fan of the material, but he taught clearly. He gives you a preview to each exam (i.e. Question 1 is about...; Question 2 is about...) which helps, but the tests can still be tough. The packet is super helpful and there is homework due every week. There is also a weekly in-class quiz, but it is all doable.

A very solid professor. Not difficult especially if you take this class concurrently with PDBIO 363. My one beef with this class would maybe be that he always has at least a couple of questions on each test that are completely out of nowhere, but aside from that its all quite reasonable and I was able to get a good grade without too much work.

His book drove me nuts, but it really is concise and has everything you need to know. Awesome class. Tests can be tricky. Know the packet and go to class and you'll do well in the class.

One of my favorite professors at BYU this was a hard class however. I feel like I understood the material a lot better than my grade reflects. Tests are difficult and there are four of them. His packet is great, do the reading and practice problems. He was a very clear lecturer and also worked with me to find time to meet w/ him.

Dr. Porter was the most organized professor I've ever had. He's passionate about teaching (wrote his own free book for adv. phys.). The syllabus is specific and you know exactly what to expect. He is a crystal clear lecturer (if a bit dry) and available to help. Expect a quiz and homework every week and four midterms. The tests are difficult.

Professor Porter's class was awesome. He's clear, teaches interesting information, and provides lots of assistance. There are several easy homework assignments, 3 midterms, and a final. I was hesitant to take a 4 credit class in a Spring term, but he made it very manageable. If you work for an A, you'll get it. 5 star teacher, 5 star class.

Dr. Porter is a gem! Ask for help, you will get it. His expecations are crystal clear, his tests are fair and everything that you do in class, HW and quizzes prepare you for them. I am impressed by him. Super nice guy who knows his stuff, realizes this class is 2 credits and respects students' time and efforts. Take him over any bio professor!!!

Dr. Porter is a phenomenal teacher. He explains the concepts well and has many extra little assignments (not mandatory) to make sure you understand. Anyone who takes his class and doesn't understand what he's talking about by the end is REALLY not paying attention.

Dr. Porter was an excellent teacher. He is very open to allowing students to come to him with questions. His tests can be very difficult unless you grasp the many details in each section. His grading policy is fair. Take Advanced Physiology from him! P.S. He doesnt have a textbook required but has a self-written packet that you MUST study.

Dr. Porter was always willing to give extra help to students during his office hours. Lectures followed his packet closely, but he would occasionally reveal a key connection in class that wasn't identified in the packet. Doable amounts of memorization balanced with calculations. Likable man, and I would recommend him to anyone taking advanced phys.

Porter was a friendly and clear teacher. His tests were not extremely difficult, but there is a lot of information to learn. There are weekly Monday in-class quizzes that you are allowed to work together on, and weekly homework assignments. Do not buy the book. He has a lecture packet that he draws all of his test questions from.

Dr. Porter is the nicest guy and is always open for people to come and talk to him in his office. If you get an A on the final, you get an A in the class, which is what happened to me. Really enjoyed the class!

He tests straight from what he teaches and what is in his packet. A group of us went in to him before tests and he would quiz us. He didn't mind having you come into his office. He really tried to help you understand. I felt like it was helpful for preparing me for pathophysiology.

Great professor! I loved taking advanced physiology from him. The material was straight-forward; you just need to memorize his packet. You don't need the book. I didn't study from the book at all and I easily got an A. I just read through his packet and did practice problems. The workload was perfect: not too much, but enough to learn the material.

Brother Porter was great! Especially compared to what I have heard about the other PDBio teachers. The class was kind of early, but worth it to have him as my teacher. One sheet of homework each week (that's pretty easy) and an in class quiz once a week (also easy). Definitely take it from him!
