Great teacher who has a lot of knowledge to share with those who are willing to listen. You have to read every book assigned but they are all short reading and very interesting. We had about four quizzes from the readings and three papers that were not hard.

ive taken philosophy classes before and they have been okay, but maraldo really makes class interesting. you do have to read several books, but thats about it. you have a panel discusion, 3 papers and a quiz on each book. this is a very discussion oriented class. as long as you put forth some effort it should be an easy A!bottom line, great teacher

Dr. Maralado is one of the easiest best teachers. All of the other people saying he's bad are just idiots. If you have one ounce of common sense you can get an A. He gives the questions and answers to the quiz before taking them! He knows what hes talking about.. can be monotone but its interesting!!! TAKE HIM!

Good easy teacher, gives only three papers all of which are graded pretty easily. Always has a smile on his face and likes to engage in discussion. Fun class. Some of the books assigned were pretty tedious though.

Comment:

Maraldo makes up for how little he knows about how to teach with how much he knows about Philosophy. The class is easy to pass. Just show up. The assignments are simplistic and the material is provocative but the presentation is utterly unpalatable. Ideas are strung together poorly, discussions are tedious. Doesn't do the material justice.

This class was a lot of fun, and the discussions were lively and interesting. He picks great books that relate to the class and he uses them for the discussions. Fun teacher with interesting persectives. Definately recommend.

Please, do not take him. He assigns readings that are never talked about in class. It's a JapanCiv class and you discuss nothing about Geishas, nearly nothing about Samurais, nothing about Anime...it's all calligraphy, reading obscure literature, tea drinking, and one class on gardens. Complete waste of time and money.

very biased grader....get on his good side...borrow a book from him, it'll show interest. Easy class though if you do the work and make him not hate you....I unfortunately did neither of those things

Dr. John Maraldo teaches his class by telling his students that I was a pink elephant. He wanted us to prove that I wasn't but told us to shut up when we gave an answer. The class is worth taking though because Dr. John Maraldo is really, really hot.Very Pleasing to the eye.

The guy reminded me sooo much of Mr. Rogers... it was creepy. He talks in this monotone passive voice and it makes you want to spazz. I stopped attending after the add/drop date and took an F, b/c I'd rather my GPA be damaged than attend one more class!

He's a nice guy but he talks so s-l-o-w-l-y. There were times in class when I thought that I would fall asleep. The subject matter does make you think about some things in your life but I am sure there are professors out there that can make it a lot more interesting then this guy.

VERY EASY!! u have to do one panel discussion and 3 papers. The papers are relatively easy and are based on the panel discussions mostly. the books are OK, but he's really nice and willing to help. I hate philosophy, but i'm glad i had it with him.

tried to convert his students to be Buddhists. Had a Zen monk come to class and make class walk around in circles chanting. Highly unethical.
