Comment:

Never disliked a human more. Terribly boring lectures, HUGE labs with minimal explanation and never enough time, VERY HIGH expectations of the students, tests every weekend (yes, the weekend only), ridiculous grading system. All around miserable person to be in a room with. Should just stick to research.

Comment:

Dr. Gertsch knows her stuff but fails to lecture in a style where students want to learn the material. She expects huge amounts of material to be simply memorized and writes excruciatingly long and confusing labs and very difficult and detailed tests. This class slowly eats your soul under the weekly weight of boring lectures and crappy quizzes.

I really liked her as a person and this class. She really knew what she was talking about and even when she made a few mistakes (like a terrible test no one passed) she fixed it and made the weekly test easier for the students. She'll post everything you need to know on canvas and really cares about her students. Also received a lot of help in lab

Comment:

I had gertsch for my geology lab and it literally made me question my major. There is no syllabus provided, so you have no idea what's going on until they tell you the night before. I didn't know there was a final until the week before the final. She was in lab maybe 40% of the time, so we were on our own. Shockingly poorly structured class.

I dont know whats going on in class and Im not sure she does either. She says the textbook is wrong, but the weekly quizzes are based on the textbook but her grading is based on what she says is right. Oh and shes never wrong. Good luck

You must attend every class and take good notes in order to do well in her class. There are weekly online quizzes that are pretty difficult even though they are open book and note. Overall she is a nice person and she really cares about her students.

She is a terrible teacher. She is unclear in everything that she wants you to know and just all around unpleasant person to even be in the same room with. Avoid her at all costs. I would rather slit my own throat before being in her presence again.

I found this class to be hard because of the material covered and the amount of busy work. I feel like Dr. G knows her stuff, and goes out of her way to make the class very in depth. I am not interested in a lot of what was covered, but I can respect her teaching. Tests are hard, but she gives out previous exams for study. Make sure you do.

I really disliked Dr. Gertsch. Her lecture is really boring. She moves extremely fast through the slides she uses, so don't even try to take notes from those. It does not seem that what she tells you to study for tests really helps. She has really specific questions which makes all three of her tests difficult to prepare for. I JUST DISLIKED HR

No more open book/notes tests. A lot of chart memorization. Not very many tests. First test was the mid-term the average was 54% before the curve and 64% after the curve. I got a 94% after the curve. Just study your butt off and you'll do good. I really like her and the class.

She allows open book and open notes on all exams so take advantage of that. The tests are easy but very long. Her lectures are quite boring and you dont even take down many notes cuz they're all on slides on blackboard. She gave extra credit here and there. Not very up to date thou. I got an 89% she gave me a B. Thats the only thing bad about her.

Just about the easiest class so far! All tests were open book and open notes even use a friend... final was really hard though, who knows where she came up with the questions, basically take notes, read over the book and ur set!

Wow, you guys are really slackers. You do on-line homework that is so easy, and only one a week, open-note tests, lab is a little difficult but just takes time.

Comment:

She thinks that her class should be the most important and makes us do way too much homework. If everyone does good on a test, she will make it ten times harder the next time. There's a quiz every week, and all the homework is basically online.
