Comment:
This was a standard literature class with novels and discussions with one twist: 60% of the grade is based on in-class timed essays. The grading was relatively easy, but beware if you hate timed writing. I found the class structure and discussion questions not particularly engaging, but I do hear her other literature classes are better/different.

I took her twice and each time she was fantastic. For this class, she wasn't as laid back/easy but the class was boring so its understandable. The work isn't hard, just two essays and a final, and attendance isn't mandatory, just go to section and do the work and you'll be fine. She grades fairly. She's very nice and smart so take her if you can!

This is my favorite professor at UCSD and I'm not even a lit major! The topics she teach are interesting and she is extremely knowledgeable. Classes require a lot of work, but if you attend lecture and engage with the reading, you will have a good experience. Be sure to go to office hours, she is a genius!

She was very nice, but also very strict. She lectures using PowerPoint, but doesn't read off of the slides. Reading is reasonable and the essays aren't graded too harshly. Her class can be fun; she showed a Simpson's episode because it related to the class.

One of the worst professors I've had at UCSD. She ruined my love for vampire lit. Going to her lectures were torturous. Required an unreasonable amount of reading, almost a book a week.

Her class was very dry and boring, she was incredibly pretentious about her knowledge in Medieval Literature, and frequently pointed out how when she "took the equivalent of this course at UCLA the professor made us memorize his opinions so I'm making you do the same.:

Who would have thought that someone could make Vampires in Lit an unbearable class?! The approach she takes to this course sucked all the fun & excitement out of it, no pun intended. She basically just cares about the literary genres of the works & how they fit in with the lit of that time. I had to drop before she killed my love of vampirism!

God, what an arrogant woman. Lecture was her platform to brag about her knowledge on obscure medieval crap (ie - "I'm one of the few scholars that can speak Middle English"). On the last day of class, she said "I don't want you to include your own analysis or opinion - regurgitate what I've said in lecture." That is not what literature is about.

She's not as bad as people say. Definetly not as good as Cox, but she'll explain in detail all the readings and themes so that you won't be as lost, even if you've fallen behind in the reading. And yes, the final is pretty easy if you study and pay attention in class. Make sure you go to the class website daily if you can. Canterbury Tales rocks!

yes, don't be fooled by her positive lit. reviews. in lecture she would go off on tangents that were completely irrelevant to what we were reading. her final was actually pretty easy.

A solid lecturer, has a clear direction, uses ppt slides as a guide. Knowledgeable and helpful. She focuses somewhat more on the text than the history component (two paper prompts), so you're more involved than just repeating what she says in lecture, but also makes it more time-consuming.

The amount of reading is about right, and the translations for the earlier stuff are all easy to understand. Her powerpoints generally give you some historical background and then try to prove a thesis about the work being studied. The essays are clearly explained, though often very involved with the reading (and thus rather time-consuming).

I challenge all professors to make their lectures as helpful, interesting and thought-provoking as this one. Truly exemplary and I learned more from her in one quarter than in all other classes combined. Helpful in office hours and makes herself available to students. Responds to emails quickly too!

REALLY enjoyed class. Reading is difficult and takes several hours per week but she really breaks it down into importance. Papers are not that bad, just be sure to TURN THEM IN ON TIME. Overally Professor Lampert was really helpful in the passage selections chosen in class and we got to watch the Simpsons!

She made the class pretty darn fun and was awfully nice. I had to take the class for a GE but was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. If you need a UD Lit class, take Chaucer with Lampert-Weissig. She was cool. PS Harry Potter survives and kills Voldemort.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY HER POS. LIT REVIEWS. she's a terrible hum prof. lectures were too hard to follow, very disorganized. she had powerpoint but it was just an outline, not very helpful and she has a tendency to jump around and talk about stuff that isn't on the slides. beats around the bush before she gets to the point in lecture. DON'T TAKE HER!

LOVED it. I am a HUGE medieval lit. nerd, and I was very much in my element in this class. Lampert is extremely knowledgeable and witty, and her lectures were very interesting. Note passages she reads in class...they will probably be on the final in some shape/form. Papers were decent, and my TA (Amie Filkow) was wonderful. Hard work, but worth it!
