A micro manager to be sure. She graded us on our notes, and had a rigorous colored highlighting system that she had us use to deface our texts. Spent an entire class talking about how one paragraph of great expectations used more "S"s than the others. Also, could not use the words be, it, is, are, has, have, had, was, or were on papers.

Best Prof. I had @ RWU in the early 1990s. She is demanding, with high expectations, but worth every minute, because in challenging you to do your best, she teaches you a great deal. She's brilliant. My vocab, skills and knowledge increased significantly under her tutelage.

Mind blowing. Her literature/philosophy class went very well for me as a freshman 1st semester. There is a lot of work involved, but if you get into the work and enjoy it you can come out with new life views. I am so thankful for her!!

A lot of work. A paper due almost every class. A lot of lecturing. A 12 page paper final. I honestly feel the Professor Shelton is really intelligent and a good professor, though. I just thought it was a little too much work for a CORE class, but I really don't regret taking her class. I really did learn a lot and got an A, so it's managable.

This is the teacher who taught me to write. I had a tutorial with her and each time I learned something new. After graduation then on to Yale, her teaching resonated and then on to my PHD. I now teach writing in medicine. I owe a lot to this Prof.

Unless you're an English major and it's required (oh no, I used"it's" She'll find me!) stay away. Far away. The reading is insane and the classes are too long. And she likes to hear herself talk. Back away slowly and when you're far enough away, start running. And don't look back.

Prof. Shelton is brilliant. Listening to her inspires me. However, her style and expectation takes getting used to. I have taken 3 of her classes and signed up for the fourth.

You'll learn a lot if you pay really good attention, but watch out: Her assignment directions are very poorly worded and require WAY too much clarifying. I get the feeling even she often does not understand her own directions. Her rules for writing will make you papers take DAYS to get right (cannot use "be, is, are, has, have, had, was, or were")

She's incredibly demanding and seems to think that her class is the only class that you have. If you actually read everything that is assigned you probably will have no life. However, she does motivate you to work hard and she is approachable if you need help.

She does not understand the concept of quality over quantity when assigning work and doesn't even address most of the assigned reading. Although very smart, she demonstrates terrible pedagogy and unclear expectations. I learned MUCH, MUCH more form other literature proffesors.

Prof. Shelton is a very smart woman. However, she expects to much from her students. You do learn a lot, but she wants you to mark up books to the point that you cannot reread them.

She has this bizarre belief that writers ALWAYS write to convey a message, rather than to entertain. Also has a habit of reading into literary pieces to a bizarre degree (IE: the number of S's used in Dickens' works). Do not take unless you're an english major and love esseys.

Once asked all the guys in the class if they felt comfortable with the fact that the bible has been oppressing women for over 2,000 years. Horrible. If your all about reading yet another feminist author while your at college then have fun with this one.
