She is a nice lady, but occasionally gets angry over weird things. Her lectures are dull. There is lots of group work, which is nice. Participation is a big deal. Her grading is difficult.

Comment:
Not a great professor. Went on the International Media trip, she was flighty, unorganized and a bad traveler. I disagreed with her on directions in Paris and she grabbed my arm forcefully and yelled at me like a Catholic nun. I'll never forget that. It ruined the rest of the trip. I didn't learn anything either. Waste of money.

Took her Journalism class, she spent 50%+ of it focusing on grammar usage. Another 40% was on how pun-laden you could make a title for an article, and the remaining 10% was on AP style. She didn't teach any reporting techniques, writing styles, nut grafs, ledes, anything relating to Journalism.

Comment:
I thought media ethics was going to be completely boring, but Professor Patterson made the cases interesting and relevant. The paper and the weekly journal entries weren't especially easy, but the grading was fair. Plus, Professor Patterson was pretty available and understanding when it came to trouble with assignments or scheduling conflicts.

Comment:
After three degrees, this is the worst course I have ever taken. Uber liberal and doesn't listen to anyone else's points of view on anything. No matter what party or viewpoints, be careful with this one. Grading somehow is affected once viewpoints begin to fly. Get some content in the class and make it worthwhile.

Proff. P. is awesome. If you like journalism and editing, she's the best to take. Watch out, she may look harmless, but she's not afraid to pound a few beers on the South Side with her students!

She is great...I always found her helpful. She was one of the best teachers I had at Duquesne. I would take her classes if you got a chance. She will teach you things to use in real life and not a lot of useless facts like other Professor's in the Dept.
