Comment:

Coming from a STEM student's outlook, this course was super interesting and fun! If you go to class and take notes, you'll be fine. However, there were only two assignments in the first month (which honestly was nice because I had a lot of work later on)! The final exam was all fill in the blank and had to identify paintings, statues, etc.

Comment:

What is expected on assignments is not taught, & subjectively marked by TA. If you want to talk to him he sends you to the TA., not very helpful or friendly in person. Poor slides with little or no information. If you miss a class you probably miss a test question. The "text" is his own is not adequate, and skims over a rich subject. disappointed.

Grading is very subjective. If you complete an assignment to the exact specifications and instructions, the highest grade you can get is between 70-79. There are only two assignments in the course, and are both due within the first month of the semester, without sufficient time in between each to get feedback.

Dr. Beckmann is awesome! He is really funny, approachable and nice. 2nd-year Latin is really easy with him as well. We have only learned 2 new grammatical concepts, but we do a lot of reading which I find really improved my comprehension of the language. Hoping to work in Italy with him this summer as well!

Extremely nice guy. Young. Very much into what he teaches. If you give a wrong answer he'd rather mold it into a right answer than tell you that you're wrong. His teaching style is reasonably effective.

Martin Beckmann is a good professor. He knows what he is talking about and provides interesting information. However, his delivery is rather boring and sometimes difficult to listen to.
