Comment:
Shen is an interesting guy. I can tell he really tries to inspire the class and make learning fun, but when he explains simple equations he starts rambling and ends up making the material more confusing. The tests are similar to the textbook. The lectures are not helpful when it comes to the tests. Get ready to learn on your own time.

Shen is an interesting guy. He really wants you to understand but his lectures get confusing and don't really seem that relevant. Make sure to do your homework well because most of the test questions are very similar. I know people that don't show up to lectures and still do well on tests because the lectures rarely reflect test content.

Comment:
Your grade is based solely on the tests and his tests don't always reflect the lectures. You need to do the homework problems and read the textbook as much as you can. Understand how all the formulas work together. Tests are mostly working out problems rather than understanding the theory. His lectures are hard to understand as he moves quickly.

Shen means well but his lectures are mostly unrelated to what we're actually tested on. This class moves really fast so you have to work hard, read the textbook and do all the homework even though it's not graded. That being said, he's a funny guy and really helps during office hours. He knows if you're trying or not and he wants you to succeed.

Apathetic towards his students and unclear in lecture made for a miserable class and overall unfortunate experience. Avoid if possible.

Comment:
Shen is very well-meaning. He really wants his students to succeed, but the combination of a language barrier (I couldn't easily understand his accent) and the fact that his lectures had no bearing on the tests made this difficult. Only take this class if you already know a lot of chem or are prepared to learn the textbook material on your own.

Shen does not test on everything he covers in class. If something goes over your head, don't worry. What is in the textbook is more important. His tests are difficult but his final curves are very fair.

Comment:
Professor Shen is a horrible lecturer; he makes everything more confusing and less fascinating. For this class, you definitely have to study yourself to even pass. Just read the text book, do the homework and use his office hours. It might also help to learn some calculus in advance because he does a lot of calculations in class.

Professor Shen meant well (sort of), but his lectures were extremely confusing and I walked out with no idea what I had just "learned." I went to office hours every single week and still felt lost. The only way I got a decent grade in this class was studying for hours on end and teaching myself. My advice: don't take this class with Shen.

He was one of the most unclear and hard to follow teachers I've ever had. It was almost pointless to go to class because his lectures made me confused and overwhelmed. The tests are hard, but if you do the problems he assigns it's definitely possible to get a decent grade, as the curves are pretty high. The textbook is the professor for this class.

Shen is a crazy guy. He really knows his stuff, and his lectures can get pretty complex. Thankfully, he doesn't test too much on his super hard lectures, and most of the questions are similar to those in the textbook homework. That being said, the tests are difficult.

Totally hilarious professor. Hard to understand and painfully disorganized, but you'll do fine if you put some effort into reading the text. Doesn't care if you text in class or even show up at all. Alot of people are intimidated by him but he's really a very nice guy that wants to help.

As long as you don't mind reading the textbook, chem with Shen is fine! He's really funny and is very willing to help in office hours. If you don't plan on reading the textbook, though, you should expect things to go pretty horribly.

Professor Shen is really nice, understanding, and very enthusiastic about teaching. He's really hard to follow during lectures, though and it's difficult to predict what will be on his tests, which are really hard. He curves grades at the end of the semester because most people do horribly otherwise.

Don't be afraid! Shen as a person is quirky, hilarious and entertaining. A nice guy. However, as a P-Chem professor he lacked clarity and I pretty much had to learn the material myself. His tests were surprisingly easy and straightforward considering how ridiculously hard he could have made them.

Clearly knows what he is talking about, and expects everyone in his class to have the same understanding. I don't mean to bash him, and I did well in the class due to about 20 hours of studying a week, but most kids do extremely poorly and don't learn well. You have to study on your own for his tests... the low enrollment in his classes say it all.

His laziness and zero interest is completely reflected in the fact that he wears the same clothing every single day to class...no joke. He switches up a little bit when it becomes winter. Mumbles, screams, dances, which does entertain, in the end is completely useless for his impossible exams. You have to teach yourself to get a semi decent mark.

Shen knows what he's talking about, but he is not clear and does not simplify the difficult concepts. I liked him a lot more for Chem 111, now he just spends all class writing equations with little explanation. On the bright side, he's a funny guy and will wake you up for your 8:20. Also no required work besides exams and no attendance policy.
