When I first saw how old Prof Sugarman was on day 1, I was afraid I would be bored to death all semester. However, this man is hilarious and does not care what he says. I barely pay attention but still have a 95 in the class (Jewish Studies and ps I am not jewish, just needed to fill a place in my schedule).

if your are reading this and are a thoughtful person who actually cares an iota about learning for the sake of learing and being inspired, TAKE ANY CLASS HE TEACHES FOR HEAVENS SAKE. By far my favorite class. Beyond the material he teaches, the man has lived a life devoted to his work. He is a story teller, and one of the few inspiring ones here

Absolutely fantastic teacher take one of his classes if you can! Professor Sugarman has a long and fascinating teaching career and life history, which he will tell you many stories about over the course of the semester. The class is reading-heavy, but Sugarman explains the concepts well. Not difficult at all come to class, because it's worth it!

At first I thought he was a bit odd, but Prof. Sugarman turned out to be one of my favorite professors. He's definitely not your typical teacher. Loved hearing about Jewish heritage and history. Anyway, his Class in the summer on the meaning of life was really good, but he expects you to participate in class discussion. Great book selection.

Sugarman really cares about every student within the context of his class but also regarding their entire academic lives. You can tell he really cares about what he's teaching and his random stories are the best.

Sugarman is fantastic. Such an inspiration and loved by all students. Hilarious, sincere, and vastly intelligent. His teaching style is lecture, but he's very interested in what the students have to say and is almost always open to new ideas. Get ready to hear stories from his colored past! This is one class you'll never forget.

Really wonderful man. He makes a lot of jokes and is overall VERY nice and funny. Sometimes can be a little confusing because he rambles and loses track of what he is talking about, but its enjoyable and pretty easy to get by no matter what.

Professor Sugarman may be one of the best teachers UVM has to offer. He's a world-class professor who is so genuinely nice and supportive of other people's ideas and interpretations of the reading- not very usual in the realm of college teaching. If you put in the effort, you're bound to do really well. I love him, you will too!

He is so awesome!!! I took his meaning of life class and it was totally worth it. Besides, when the reading was kind of dry, the class itself would be made interesting by his interpretations of the texts. The class is so easily quotable. Take his classes if you can!

Sugarman is so energetic about learning and discussions. He is so funny with his stories and his knowledge of life. He uses his personal experiences with every book and has the class laughing so hard. Take a class with him just to hear his Marlon Brando impersonation.

Hands down one of the best professors I have ever had! Amazingly brilliant. Sometimes maybe too easy and text can be confusing. But really pushes you and with success to look outside of the norm. My only wish is that he taught more classes!
