Comment:
Prof Leith is a nice and approachable guy, but he takes forever to grade things. He has told the class that we are not his priority class multiple times. He does not learn everyone's names. Also, the classes are mostly just listening to him talking. He wants students to engage and be a community but then doesn't encourage involvement in class.

Comment:
This isn't your ordinary English class. Leith shows great passion towards the history of Columbia and the assignments he gives are based around that. He does take a while to grade papers, but his feedback is very helpful. There's a lot of work in the class, but got a B so it wasn't that bad.

Comment:
Leith is a good person but a terrible professor. He assigns a LOT of projects, often all overlapping each other when it comes to due dates, but doesn't give a rubric. He will always find something to take off points for, and takes forever to grade. There's no textbook, but he will assign outside reading, which no one really reads.

I really enjoyed being in Prof. Leith's class. I learned a lot from him and he was very kind and approachable. His lectures were very thought-provoking and interesting. It made class more applicable to real life. Prof. Leith is a fair grader and is very lenient. His class was pretty easy and enjoyable. I would love to be in another class of his.

He is a nice guy who sounds like he truly is passionate about teaching and Columbia MD. His assignments are super unorganized and confusing. His directions are very unclear, alsmot as if you have to read his mind to meet his criteria. Did not learn anything NEW enlgish related just about Columbia. Assigns group projects, outside of class work

I've noticed a strong correlation between the students with a good and bad grade and rating the teacher well and poorly respectively. Despite the good or bad, ill try to focus on Prof. Leith. Prof. Leith is there to help, undoubtedly. He will write essays analyzing your homework to help. He does take forever to grade, but he is chill. 7/10

Comment:
Very few assignments, but they are large and worth a lot of points. A big group project that requires lots of outside work. The textbook you don't necessarily need to read for class, but it's helpful for assignments and projects. There is lots of outside reading assigned, but I didn't read many of them and still got an A.

He spends most of his class talking about the history of Columbia MD instead of teaching English. He does not have a clear grading criteria because he doesn't want us to "write to the rubric." I somewhat understand where he is coming from, but without providing a rubric it is difficult to know what you're supposed to do for your assignment.

This class should have been discussion based. Because, many of the "projects," were superfluous. You have a lot of readings, and the "reading responses" are long. Rick was disrespectful at times, acted sarcastic, and thought that his opinions were right. Overall, I would not recommend this professor to anyone. Not even to my worst enemy.

I thought this was gonna be an easy class since it was pretty much just discussion but Rick made it harder than it needed to be. Our reading list was so long like 6-7 different reading and most were long, he grades really hard like reallllly hard plus he takes forever to grade your work. He kind of disrespectful sometimes.

Took this class for my first semester and in the beginning I thought it would be a pretty difficult class. I noticed that his class was actually really fun. He is an amazing teacher and he really cares on the grading for our papers and projects. He takes his time to review our papers and gives excellent notes on them. I would love to take him again

The work felt very loosely connected to the units we had. The Life is a Playlist isn't very motivating like he makes it out to be, and the interview to help with our Oral History has to be stretched. Finding someone related to Merriweather is hard to connect to law. Very stretched connections, and just not a very amusing class.

This English Class is far from your traditional college course. As a teacher he has a different approach for his teaching method, yet it is still very effective. He makes learning fun, stimulating your brain. The Discussion posts will have you thinking in depth. One of the best English teachers I had at HCC.

Despite all the positive reviews, this teacher was not for me. He started to try to teach us through music, which is whatever thats fine, but then wanted us to come up with playlists of songs that define us but ONLY if they were played at merriwether post pavilion, which feels really limiting. not my cup of tea.

Rick Leith was the best instructor i have ever had at HCC. He breaks away from the traditional setting in the classroom and creates a huge circle so that he and the students can have face to face discussions about the material. He is very clear about what the expectations are. I HIGHLY recommend taking this class over the summer semester.

GREAT TEACHER! TAKE A CLASS OF HIS! he is hilarious and it was a joy going to every class! WOULD RECOMMEND 100%! this ethics course involved outside work with the class but it was super fun and during normal class times so it was not difficult to complete... just show up to class time. there is some reading (articles+ a book) but not too bad

Assigns material for study outside of the literary canon, but also includes traditional works. Professor minimizes the cost of the textbook by utilizing works out of copyright, and including contemporary works that have been freely shared by the author. Assigns regular material for reading; however, the homework requires little time to complete.
