Comment:

Robyn is the most competent instructor in the Design Department! She dispenses with the B.S. and tells you EXACTLY what is needed and how to BEST accomplish it without lecturing to death. She's constructively critical, knowledgeable and caring. She taught me to confidently use the pen tool in Illustrator in 1 class and now I am a design tutor!

Comment:

Great teacher, always willing to give feedback on projects in class and outside of class for me. You will usually have to put in a lot of time on projects, this is because she focuses on making sure you have good work you can put into your portfolio. Great for students serious about being a graphic designer. I learned a lot, would take her again!

Her classes have no sense of structure or reason. She puts no effort in developing a lesson plan or organizing something worthwhile. 3 hours classes are spent just sitting around. Her "teaching" is looking up tricks from a illustration book and showing us like this is 2001 or youtube doesn't exist. her projects are boring and dragged out.

She wastes time teaching nothing new. Shes vague in her instructions. If she doesn't like you, she doesn't grade your work on time. If feedback is given, it's given the night before an assignment is due. I would take another professor if you can wait or just use skill share or something. Just don't take her class.

If you're wanting to copy out of a book, don't take this class. Robyn actually TEACHES you how to create detailed illustrations. She doesn't allow people to get off topic, which i love and she encourages her students to get creative by giving a set of "guides" for projects instead of "rules". I also really enjoy her sense of humor.

This was by far the most useful class I have ever taken. Everything taught in this class has real world applications, which is a breath of fresh air. Showing up is necessary or you may get confused with what's due. The assignments itself are not difficult, just manage your time wisely or you will fall behind.

Robyn is one of the best teachers in the design program. Her in-class demos teach you how to use software effectively (with many other teachers, an online tutorial would honestly be a better use of your time) but she also focuses heavily on design principles and process. If you put in the effort you'll pass her classes and learn something too.

I learned a lot from taking the Portfolio class and it was awesome class. Robyn definitely cares about her students. Participation is important and there is always homework due, but no complaints. I liked the class very much.

Robyn was an awesome teacher. Her teaching more about how creative the student is, which can be difficult but if you really put time in you can pass the class. I personally found GCOM340 boring since I already knew a lot of graphic design. Wasn't really challenging but overall still a great class and she's a great professor.

She can be a good teacher, when she wants to, if she likes you. Great! If not, she will make your life hell. Constant snotty remarks, She made my last semester in school horrible. Very condescending and snarky. I'm looking for a new school so I don't have to take another class with her.

Taking Robyn's class was inspirational. It convinced me that Graphic Communication was something I wanted to pursue. I would highly recommend her! Some of her assignments can be pretty lengthy but if you put in the work it will be totally worth it!

She is definitely a unique professor. She is tough and demanding but is inclined to bring out the best in you. She helps you think outside of the box and will push & challenge you to go out of your comfort zone. By far one of the most inspiring teachers I have ever had the privilege of knowing. :)

I had to take this class to transfer, although my major is photography and not graphic design. Her class is time consuming and if you miss a class period, then you do not know what is going on for the next assignment due. Her class is very informing and great for people wanting to be in graphic design.

Robyn is a good teacher but If you're someone used to doing things your way, and aren't interested in changing that or at least open to changing that, then you are going to have a hard time in her class. Don't be stubborn, be open, because Robyn wants to help you... Hell I started the class feeling like I would drop it, but I got an A.

The class was overall a good experience and I learned a lot. However, you should know that she has an intense personality. No one should take her personality personally, but if she ever seems rude or defensive, that's just the way she is. She's fixed in her ways, which is fun and challenging for hw assignments, but she can't admit to being wrong.

Yes, Robyn is a hard teacher and yes her critiques can be harsh, but if you want to be a graphic designer, or any type of creative professional, you'd better get used to it. This class isn't about drawing pretty pictures, it's about critical thinking and problem solving, which is what graphic design is about. If you're serious, take this class.

I am an excellent student, love design and being creative. I have had almost all teachers in the GCOM department and I have to say this has been an awful experience. She talked down to the class almost every single session. Maybe you need thick skin for her class...

I learn more about design, and thinking in design from taking robyn's classes than any other classes in the department. She pushes, in a great way, to get everything out of your creative process. You end up creating things you never thought possible. If you are serious about leaning and becoming a great designer take this class.

You'll be required to do things that may not be in your best interest. These things include taking pictures, going to print shops, and so on. Simple is advocated, having a simple idea is not. I took this to better my current style of art, not to learn how to be a mysterious art philosopher in "pop" culture. 40 students, less than 20 remained...
