Comment:
Tough grader; rarely gives out 'A's. Will definitely push you as a writer. Can be very demeaning when she talks to students/ writes comments on papers. Won't grade your paper high if your thesis doesn't agree with what she personally thinks.

Comment:
Professor Seelig is a great professor for 17th century poetry. The class was very small so you had to participate. I never did the reading before class and still got an A- in the class and missed two homework assignments. She encourages students to review their papers with her before handing them in -- this is not mandatory. She will grade fairly.

horrible! the class had potential but she was the worst professor ever. She would give open ended prompts but in actuality they were not open-ended--everything had to be tied to your feelings and your personal life. she is insanely boring and the entire semester i felt like getting up and walking out of class. never taking a class with her again

This was a fantastic class. She expects you to work hard, but she keeps discussion interesting and has some hilarious comments on the material. I didn't enjoy all of the plays we read, but they're chosen by the department and class was never boring.

One of the best classes that I took my entire time at Smith, and one of my very favorite professors. She knows her subject inside and out and she made me LOVE--alright adore-- Milton. She expects you to write a lot, and she makes you work hard, but she is always prepared, and she is understanding if you need a little extra time to finish a paper.

You definitely have to work hard in her class, but she's pretty understanding and will cut you a break if you really need one. I found the material REALLY boring, but I think that's just my personal taste. She was always willing to meet with us to go over papers, which was nice.

She told me I was one of the best writers she ever encountered during her entire time at Smith. My grade? I still got a B. ENOUGH SAID

Great class, you can tell she really cares about the material. The discussions were always insightful and I encountered writers whose names I might never have known otherwise.

Great professor. People don't like her because she urges you to work really hard. But she knows her stuff, and she's really a great prof on all levels. Suck it up and work hard, you're at Smith, aren't you?

I thought I loved literature but her class taught me nothing but a hatred for Keats and whoever created that infernal idea of scansion. Except a lot of time disscussion on the merits of "da-da-dum" vs. "dum-da-dum"

really sweet, and better during one on one office hours--not great at leading discussions though, class often boring. IMO, we spent hours just discussing plot and didn't ever get around to real analysis.
