Very knowledgeable. Answers her own questions. Lectures can be dry, especially when you don't get to speak. She isn't very open to opinions different from her own. Even with poetry there are definite right and wrong answers in her class.

This teacher expects you to remember each story line by line. This would be fine if you were only testing on a couple stories at a time but the mid-term and the final test on several (7+) stories at once. I have a 3.52 GPA and consider my efforts above average yet even I struggle to remember lines from stories. This is a bad format for a lit class.

Love this teacher. In order to get an A in her class simply read, show up and take notes. Not the most exciting class, but if you participate you'll for sure enjoy. The books are cheap and the class focuses on Katherine Porter and Eudora Welty. Take this teacher.

She's super nice; kind of a grandma type. Participation is 20% of your grade and she holds class discussions at least once a week so if you're in class it's an automatic 20%. She gives pop quizzes and the test are all about terms and text recognition-SO READ! Show up and read and you'll get an A.

I was looking forward to this class, but the way Dr. Unrue teaches is highly ineffective. She essentially has the students do long, rather tedious, somewhat useless presentations, and then gives a couple of comments at the end. She also gives midterms and finals at the graduate level, which I find rather insulting and unnecessary.

She's very nice but the lectures are very dull and she's ALWAYS late to class which is really annoying to me.

When you enroll in Dr. Unrue's class, prepare to be challenged. Note how I said challenged and not frustrated. She is an excellent instructor and knows her material extremely well. Her quizzes and tests are hard, but fair. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Unrue is a good teacher. class consists of 11 short quizzes on reading material, a midterm (fairly hard but an easy grader), final, and take home essay. She lectures most of the class time and also passes out discussion questions. All around pretty good teacher.

Took ENG 744 some years ago. Dr. Unrue slept (literally, I suspect) through seminars. Weighs in the last five minutes with pithy comments in an effort to earn her salary. Not much value for money, IMHO. Comments on essays concerned with Chicago format, primarily. Useful, but sidesteps close reading. Avoid.

she can be a little boring but she really really knows what she is talking about and will give helpful comments on papers. If you have questions you need to go to her because she doesnt always clarify in class.

Knowledgable, difficult, makes you think. Grads read papers to gain experience for conferences. NOT for MFAs; interest in literature and SCHOLARSHIP (NOT BS) important. Take her if you want to know your stuff.

Am lit. 1865-1918. I enjoyed her class. She is very organized and has deep knowledge of subject. Lots of quizzes- her essay midterm and final are hard. Lots of reading. Got an A in the course. I highly recommned her if you want to learn something.

In my experience, graduate seminars are rarely lecture classes; student reports are often the norm. The English 744 reports (of 400-500 words) provided a solid context for the readings. And I have always found Dr. Unrue to be helpful and polite.

I felf obliged to put in a good word for Dr. Unrue after seeing the ratings she received from two other students. True, she does not lecture much (if any), but she is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable, and willing to help.

Waste of time. Did not learn anything from her. She sat and watched student presentations and looked ready to fall asleep. Taught us nothing in our 2.5 hour weekly class. I dropped. She is especially rude to MFA students.

Comment:
Dr. Unrue never lectured and rarely addressed the texts that were assigned. I felt I did not get my money's worth because I did not learn anything from her. Class time was devoted exclusively to student presentations. A 1000 word paper was due every week.
