He is old, and a tough grader. His handwriting is almost impossible to read, which is the only feedback you get from him. Many of his handouts are pointless. I have always done very well in English, and only got a B. The first assignment, 95% of the class got an incomplete, while others just got low grades. Just take someone else.

He is a nice guy, but he is not teacher quality. I tried real hard to like him, but he is not on top of his game. He will never respond to emails and he takes weeks to return graded assignments. I learned more and faired better in English 1A and 1C. I would suggest taking a different teacher. Unfair grader too.

He is really nice. he wastes your time in class. It is pretty easy if you know how to write and do the work he asksHe requires that you only have 3 absences. He is very lenient on the first few essays because he will give you an incomplete if your essay sucks and you can redo it.(not talking about context) handwriting illegible.

This is what this class looks like: by the time 1/2 the semester is over, he still hasn't returned any of your essays, so you don't know how you're doing. The day he gives the essays back,literally 1/2 the class drops because he gave everyone, save for one student D's. He is never available during office hours, and has illegible handwriting. DON'T.

This teacher is awful. He does not return graded work and when he does he gives everyone a D 90% of my class has dropped. If you value your GPA take another teacher. Oh and also his writing is not something that you can read on your own you have to line up at the end of class for him to read it to you. Do not take this course. Eng 1A doug temkin

Really disjointed and unclear on course content. Will write feedback on essays when he returns them but good luck reading the comments. There were long lines of people after class trying to have him translate his handwriting. Don't take this if you value your GPA.

This teacher is definitely a GPA killer. He gives poor direction and no handouts for assignment essays. This causes some issues in direction. Temkin also changes these verbal assignments at random, moving the emphasis. His writing illegible. Although he seems to have an interest in his students and not a bad person I would NOT recommend him.

Do not take this professor unless you are a nomad that needs to be lead by the hand. If you have any creativity at all you will fail this class. Mr. Temkin is highly unorganized and allows no room to grow outside of his limitations. His classes feel like kindergarten.

Mr Temkin is THE best! He is so helpful and takes the time to get to know his students. He treats you like the adult you are, and doesn't try to embarrass or belittle his students. He is so sweet & caring and THE # 1 teacher for ENGLISH 1A. His class is definitely not a waste of your time because you will take his teachings with you through life!

He's a really nice teacher. I'm taking his class right now. He only makes you write essays. You only have to write 3 essays, 1 in-class essay, and a research paper, and of course, a final exam which is another in-class essay. There are NO QUIZES OR TESTS! He's a fair grader. Very helpful, and he wants you to come to him for help.

In retrospect, the class was pretty easy. Attendance, group participation, and writing the "standard" 5 paragraphy essay will equal an "A". At first, his stoic demeanor was intimidating but this faded after a couple of essays. I still don't understand why half the class dropped. I was in high school and still received an "A"!!!! :-0

Mr. Temkin is ridiculous. I know I write fairly well on my essays and struggled to keep a B in the class. Others who had great essays would get C's or even "incompletes". Hardest grader ever, I didn't learn ANYTHING at all. Not recommended.
