For being at RSU for so long, Dr. Varner is very disorganized. She's very intelligent but I think she should have more organization in her classes & classes would run more smoothly. Never get through all the materials. The tests are never about anything she talks about. All multiple choice. Group project & 2 assessments required.

Must be some no load slackers that gave all the negative reviews. Dr. V is a very fair Professor who expects you to work and learn. If you are lazy or are accustom to having every thing given to you, then you will not do well in her class. If you are there to learn and work, then you will be fine!

I think Dr. Varner is 1 of RSU's hidden gems. She is extremely intelligent, engaging and an excellent "teacher"; she "teaches" you to THINK !! She is NOT an "easy" professor, but so engaging that you are able to excel in subjects that may not be of interest in the beginning of the semester, but by the end of the you are SOOO glad you took the class

Dr. Varner has pushed me far out of my comfort zone. She is, quite literally, responsible for my personal discovery that I can be greater than I ever envisioned I could be. She is phenomenal! You will master the subject! She is available and offers honest guidance and feedback. DEFINITELY TAKE HER COURSES!!

I have had Dr. Varner for 3 classes now. She is brilliant. She isn't here to make your learning experience easy - she is here to teach you. If you want to complain about her difficulty level, you aren't serious about learning. She is amazing and incredibly knowledgeable. Yes you have to work. Welcome to the real world. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!

Took online. I am typically an A student but earned a B working my butt off. Lots of papers. You learn a lot, but be prepared to work for your grade. She's a good instructor, just make sure you set aside the necessary time. This is not an easy course. Book is required.

Excellent class - excellent teacher. Willing to help all her students. She will make you work hard (which is probably this other person's problem), but the benefit is that you actually learn. I think I am going to switch my major to SOC.

Very rude, not helpful. I was new to the school and I called her because I could not make it to class and I asked her what I missed and she said ask the person who sits next to you, as if we exchanged phone numbers. Very conceded. I don't like her one bit. Take someone else.

I'm honestly shocked at all the horrible things people have said about Dr. Varner. Granted she is a hard professor, but she is incredibly intelligent, and she has a great background in her subject. She has been helpful. And as for the "favorites" she picks? She knows some students more than others from previous classes.

Judgmental and picks favorites. Non-approachable and has an attitude. Lectures are interesting at times. She is not there for her students...she is there for notoriety. Very impressed with herself!

I'm not sure what the negative comments were about. I found her demeanor to be intimidating, but if you work hard, she is fair. She expects a lot from her students, but also tries to make the information practical and applicable to real-world situaitons. I got a broad base of research skills and really appreciate the background she has in psy/soc.
