He's a nice guy. Not the best teacher. He wants to ppl to participate but they usually don't. The lectures are long and make sure you stay on his good side. One of my friends had a bad experience. You may wonder why you're sitting in class if the questions/answers from the book are online. You'll learn more (much more) from Suarez.

Comment:

Yes the class can get boring because he doesn't always give breaks. However, I found Saiff to be a very nice man who always takes the time out for his students. I went to his office hours for both papers and my exam and he gave me very helpful hints. As a result, I did real well in the class.

Where do I start? His tests are imPossible to pass, he says he'll help of you go to his office hours but he is not helpful at all and completly disregards anything anyone says while pretending he cares. He only lectures which makes class very boring. Shares nothing and avoids answering questions if he can. Avoid him like a plague, esp. if you're not a bio major because he admitted he looks to see If there is anyone he would even consider giving an A to.

I love evolution, but he does talk a lot, and the class doesn't. apparently particip is 25% of the grade but idk what happened w that. no one talked the whole class period sometimes..except him! did well but some ppl got bad grades on the pprs just cuz.. be careful taking this guy

Avoid this guy at all cost. Our class got horrible grades on all of his tests and he is intolerable to listen to. His monotony is almost unbearable and as a member of the TAS I believe he needs a wake-up call to change his boring slide-show only lectures and impossible test questions.

Not that bad of a class... he is very boring but u get out early most of the time. Every week there is hw but the answers are online so its a piece of cake-just copy and paste! the midterm and final paper aren't that bad, jus find someone who took the class already!very helpful and caring! great professor just very monotone so boring!

Dr. Saiff is really kind and cares if the students know the material. He is a funny, interesting, and relaxed individual. Class did not last all 3 hours. Lectures got boring at times, but if you at least tried doing the homework, and studied a bit for the exam, you'll pass. I did nothing at ALL and got a C, even handed in the midterm a month late.

He's a nice person, friendly, helpful, and a relatively lenient grader. He gives a lot of textbook reading homework, which can be tedious. He's good at explaining things. Sometimes he'll start answering a question and talk for so long that pretty soon you forget what he's talking about. There were people sleeping loudly in the front row.

plz do not take this professor, he is very bad and boring. he is not organized, doesn't teach anything and leaves everything to his students. for labs you can't have professors doing nothing, especially if it is a new topic. sometimes you don't even knw wat to ask cuz you don't the topic. he doesn't clarify anything and he is just HORRIBLE!!

Dr. Saiff is very friendly, helpful, and cares about your learning. The material for Evolution was interesting, but was self-taught more than anything. Discussion-based classes, which were good at times. Final Exam focused on topics that were discussed, not specific points. Mid-Term and Term Paper weren't bad. Overall, great professor and friend.

As my advisor, he is a great guy. In the classroom, lectures are not very organized, sorta sits and talks the entire time. Material for lecture was difficult, lotta reviewing for exams. Lab was a nightmare. 3 full-scale dissections, lamprey, cat, and shark. Required to know everything in lab, tested on minute facts. Overall, not bad, got a B+.

Sweet guy. His lab exams are tricky though, because there are just too many terms that you have to potentially know, altough he only tests a quarter of them. As for lecture, the exams are very general, and if you take good notes and review them for the week before the exam, you should be fine.

Fantastic professor. All I can say is take him...trust me, you won't regret it. Very interesting, textbook is fabulous and easy to understand. A lot of reading but Dr. Saiff makes the class quite facinating.
