The class is completely lecture based and you are only graded on two papers and participation. It was interesting at first and then it got boring really quickly. He talks a lot and it's not always relevant to the class.

I'm a huge fan of Dr. Selinger, not only is he a great guy, but he will teach you so much. I took two classes with him this year after taking one of his courses a few quarters ago, the guys a champ! TAKE HIM, don't even question it, he's great... 5/5

Professor Selinger's insightful, charming lectures made me fall in love with words in more ways than I can count. He's thoughtful, funny, and extremely encouraging of his students.

So passionate about what he talks about! He lectures a lot, but he's engaging and looks for lots of class input. I've never been so excited go over every single word of a poem before! Honestly if you didn't think poetry was interesting before, you will after taking his class. He's also very lax on deadlines (could be good or bad depending on you).

You read one romance novel per week, which can be a lot to keep up with, however they're fairly easy reads and are pretty enjoyable. He's very cute and passionate about the books, which makes class pretty enjoyable! Three 4-5 page long papers for the quarter along with 1 very short easy response paper each week.

Professor Selinger is seriously the nicest person at DePaul. He is really understanding when it comes to turning in his assignments (You only have to write three papers). If you ask for an extension, you're given one with no questions asked. While I wish we were reading different books, you can't help but enjoy it because of his enthusiasm

Dr. Selinger is an outstanding teacher, one of the best at DePaul/ anywhere. Even though his class was only 10 weeks, I learned SO much about poetry, writing about it, analyzing it, creating it, etc. He's an expert. It's a lot of work + he has high expectations, but it pays off. Trust me. Everyone should take him. I'm taking him again this quarter

He is, by far, the greatest teacher I've ever had. If you don't get the material, he helps you get it. He takes time out of his day to make sure that you're getting it, no matter if it's during office hours or not. He's always interested in what you have to say. He's beyond funny. His are something to look forward to. I want to say so much more...

I highly recommend taking a class with Professor Selinger if you are an English major. He doesn't simply lecture & his classes are mostly discussion based. He's very witty and approachable and he makes the assignments interesting.

Comment:

Professor Selinger is such a rare combination of astounding intelligence and genuine compassion that you won't find in a lot of profs. He's not only engaging and challenging as a teacher, but he's so kind, approachable, and understanding toward students. I don't think he'll be teaching this class again but definitely take him if you get the chance.

I have so many wonderful things to say about him. I've taken him 3 times and he never disappoints. He's understanding if you're not much of a talker and he's extremely flexible. Just 2-3 short papers and weekly casual response papers. He's one of the greatest gems DePaul has to offer. Not to mention, he's adorable. Take him, and take him again.

Personally I found this guy super annoying... he is the toughest grader EVER. And he gets way too overexcited abut English and the amount of reading in this class will make you want to rip your hair out

Women and Literature: easy class! There is a lot of reading to be done but if you're clever you can get away with reading little to none. His syllabus is intimidating, but he does not enforce it. He is NOT strict on attendance and will not call on you either. There are 3 papers your have to write, no midterm or final. Take the class.

Take this professor if you can! He is entertaining and keeps material interesting. He is very helpful and understanding. I had him for a popular romance fiction class, there was allot of reading but the books were fun! Nothing but positive things about this professor!

Prof Selinger is a very interesting dude to say the least! He's pretty funny and tries to make the books enjoyable as possible. They really aren't that bad! You have to do reading responses and a few papers so there's a lot of reading but I really didn't mind! Overall, good professor and interesting class!
