Comment:

Lynn is very caring and loves her work, unfortunately this may sometimes result in ramble lectures that are loosely tied to classwork. Slightly unorganized, but definitely not the worst. Overall a good prof, with bearable quirks

Comment:

Good professor, and incredibly smart. She will tell you exactly what you need to know for the exams, so don't feel overwhelmed with the material from class. Just look at your study guide and go from there. She talks fast in lecture, but you only need to write down key concepts and listen. Provides personal experience in field that is interesting!

Comment:

Study Guides for exams are VERY unorganized and hard to follow, not very helpful, I guess she tried. Very boring slow lectures, and I'm someone who loves psychology courses and very interested in the women and gender studies area, and she kinda makes it boring for you. Nice women, but I probably wouldn't take another class with her.

Comment:

Lecture was pointless. She had many personal stories to share, very few pertaining to the topics in class. She used a lot of time to over-explain assignments before getting to the lecture. Between the stories and the explaining, there wasn't much time for anything important to discuss. Make sure to read the textbook since class is not helpful.

She tends to ramble on during class, but other than that I thought she was a good professor. Exams are very easy. Go to class, she'll tell you exactly what to expect for the exams. There are two papers that are somewhat difficult, but overall the class wasn't hard.

Comment:

This professor does not teach from the book enough if she claims to. She talks about herself for most of the class and when you do lecture over slides, she goes so fast you can't even write/type it all. Doesn't get through all the chapters material before the exams but will after the exam? What is the point of that. I will not be taking her again.

Lynn is very knowledgeable but tends to get off topic for very large amounts of class time. She often has an attitude in her announcements and emails. She on average spends 20-40 minutes of class time on topics unrelated to the lecture. The class is graded on 4 tests, 2 papers, and 60pts of in class writing. Shes very specific, so ask questions!

The class was graded off 4 exams, 2 papers (one builds on two), and 60 points of in class writings based on videos watched in class/lecture. She posts on Bb of when an in-class writing will be. Went to class everyday but looking back at it, wasn't really needed. Didn't buy the book just reviewed her lecture slides on Bb before exams.

Sweeney really talks a lot. It takes her a minute to get to the point. Most things are relevant, but we lose class time because she talks so much. However, she is very intelligent and knows what she's talking about. She shows great videos in class. The rest is just a lot of lecture.

Lynn is very nice. She's always available after class and in office hours. Had both books for PSY588 and PSY334 and barely used them. She writes her own powerpoint and study guides have every single piece of information that will be on the exam, but doesn't post slideshows so you have to attend class. Exams are very easy!

Easy class. She gives you everything you need: study guide, powerpoint. No need to read the book. Study diagrams. Read the powerpoint. You'll get an A. Her stories and case studies are very interesting. She's a bit long winded, but it's a class I would take again.

Lynn is my favorite professor I've had at CMU. Everyone should be required to take this class. You have 2 papers (rough draft and final draft). She gives study guides on blackboard. she sometimes takes attendance or gives in class writing so it is important to show up. It isn't hard showing up though because lectures are so interesting.

She tends to ramble a bit during lectures, but is still extremely knowledgeable about autism. The book for the class was one of the best I've ever read and I felt I gained a lot of information from this class. Not nearly as difficult as I expected, especially if you take notes. Would totally recommend if you have interest in working with autism!

Lectures were great, sometimes she does go off-topic (one lecture was a tangent about something that had nothing to do with class, book, etc). But it's alright. She is a little rough for grading, some papers will be a X-, X, or X+ style, in which you can get 12/20, 16/20, or 20/20.... most get 16/20, which is 80%... not much room between A and C...

Lynn is very self centered. She believes that her opinion is the only correct one and won't listen to what others have to say. She stretches the truth on her personal achievements and constantly sites herself in class. She rarely actually lectures and spends the first hour talking about herself. She's also 5-10 minutes late everyday.

Lynn Sweeney honestly cares about your grade and how you do in the class. She is a little long winded, but if you take enough classes with her you learn how to pick through the jargon. She was amazing for PSY 588, and made it really easy. She made this class a little harder than it need to be for a psych class.

Comment:

I loved taking this class with Professor Sweeney. She has years of clinical experience and relates everything we learn in class to real cases and patients she has had in the past. I learned so much and would recommend this class to anyone interested in neuroscience. She is truly passionate about her field and makes learning easy.

Comment:

She enjoys teaching what she teaches. You need the book for the study guides, however if you study the study guides you will do fine on the exams. She will do random in class writing assignments and take attendance, but she will give you a warning majority of the time. You don't have to take all the notes, she highlights the most important info.

Comment:

Lynn was a great professor who's dedicated to neuroscience. She uses many tricks in class to make info easier to understand and remember, and shows real case studies. I truly LEARNED because of her. Cares about student success. If you're passionate about neuroscience you'll do well. If not, the material might seem overwhelming.
