Comment:
Just a really nice guy/teacher as a whole. Can be a little condescending and sarcastic if you get on his nerves. Somewhat harsh with grading though.

Madness and Madmen: Easy class, tells you what's going to be on the test, get to watch interesting movies, reading is hard at times. Verbal questions are meandering, overly intellectual, and hard to follow at times, but he is incredibly nice, incredibly helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable. Good class for filling requirements.

Agree 100% with the last rating. The amount of reading in this class was deadly and as the poster says: It literally really is who said what on page 156. Numbingly intellectual on his bad days, engaging and though-provoking on his best.

Comment:
Extremely intellectual; not recommended for underclassmen. Assigns an absolutely huge amount of reading, and you had better do all of it if you hope to pass the quizzes he gives. Example: So-and-so said what on page 156? Other than that, genuinely interested in the material. Serious - dedicated students only need apply, they will love his classes.

He's a tough paper-grader, especially when it comes to mechanics. He's also so smart that sometimes he's kind of beyond the class level. But saying that, he's a really, geniunely nice guy who wants everyone to understand and enjoy themselves. And he has really nice hair.

Hans is the worst teacher I have had at Pitt so far. He manages to make even the most interesting subjects boring as hell, has a monotone, becomes bewildered when anyone asks a question he didn't plan on, and gets lost in thought so often you should be prepared for at least five whole minutes of him looking at his notes in the middle of lecture.

Very tough on the grading, but gave a lot of bonuses for coming to each class and rewriting each paper. Scares people off and makes you work!
