This is the best class I have taken in my college career. Professor Anderson is one of the most intelligent, hilarious, and compassionate people I have ever met. Hearing his stories taught me as much about the "meaning of life" as the philosophers we read.

Anderson is a great professor! I always loved going to Philosophy class, it was easily my favorite class of the semester. Unfortunately he is retiring, and future students will not have the opportunity to be taught by him. He will be missed.

Anderson is a sweetheart. His class is well-run and organized. He tells increasingly personal stories about his life and kids that make you want to hug him. Even though the subject is pretty specific and academic, I'd recommend this class overall. Also it's pretty easy.

Have philo experience before taking this. He is the most personable and friendly professor I've had so far. Go to office hours, get involved in discussion, ask questions. I'm a philo major, and must admit its not the most thought provoking material, but it does really impact how you see art, and the class ends with a beautiful way to see life.

Um, I guess he's clear with his expectations and teaching, but I really don't like the way he taught the class. I felt like I was in a 100 level course--taking notes on the outlines of readings..more memorization than learning in this class.

Should only be open to people who have taken Philosophy 101. Unless you have a philosophical train of thought and like writing philosophical papers, don't take it. He was, however, an excellent professor, willing to help, and provided incredibly thorough review sheets. All in all, my own fault, not interested in the subject matter.

Philosophy of the Arts is one of the best classes I've taken here. Anderson is hilarious, and very very smart. Almost every lecture was inspiring to me; we covered a lot of great material. He is clear with his expectations, and lectures are always entertaining. If you do the readings and pay attention, you'll do well in the class, and have fun.

I enjoyed this class so much that I registered to take Philosophy of the Arts next semester just to have Jim as a professor again! Do the reading, get involved in discussions, go talk to him during his office hours, and you'll really enjoy any of his classes.

Superb class. Professor Anderson is an excellent teacher; he presents the material extremely clearly, he is great with helping out if you have questions, exams and papers aren't that difficult, and he is a fair grader. Lectures are interesting and entertaining -- he has a good sense of humor. Not your tyical philosophy class. Highly recommended!
