Was a really good lecturer and knew his stuff. Don't take this class unless you're really interested in Ancient Rome though, since there's so so much reading (maybe like 3-4 books at least, including a thick course packet). There are much easier VAPAs.

Galinsky is a real gem, this class made me want to change my major to Classics. This is not a blowoff class. The essays are easy to make As on as long as you use specific details. It's best to show up to lectures, and they're so interesting that you'll want to go to every lecture. He's such an inspirational man, I would recommend him to everyone!

Galinsky's a funny guy and a good lecturer- I would recommend this class if you're interested in ancient Rome but NOT if you're just looking for an easy VAPA. There's a lot of reading and a lot of information you need to memorize. The essay tests aren't too bad, but the quizzes are very specific!! Study groups are a must!!

Professor Galisky was a great professor that really cares about his students. He will listen to personal issues and make it work for you. He's nice and accessible too. However, get ready to read, read, read. His exams are not easy and you need to memorize a lot of info to be ready for whatever. The quizzes are a little easier. Talks too fast though

I took this class after reading Glainsky's reviews and was very excited - I needed one more CC credit for my minor certificate. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AS YOUR VAPA. His lectures are very hard to understand, the powerpoints do not make sense and there is SO MUCH READING. I had to purchase 3 books and a course packet. Essay Exams.

Professor Galinsky is an amazing professor who is really passionate about the subject. He is very funny and truly wants his students to succeed. His class (Intro to Ancient Rome) was really interesting and I learned a lot. It is a bit reading heavy and your grade is made up of 3 essays and 7 quizzes (1 dropped). Overall, I highly recommend!

Karl has an okay personality but its foreshadowed by his teaching methods. He is 85 and it shows in his methods. There are few grades. 3 essay tests. 7 quizzes. I had to read every day. He assigns a lot of readings (like 500 pages of reading per quiz) and only a fraction are on the quiz at random. He is a very harsh grader. Save yourself from this.

Saying that you will have a ton of reading in this class is a pure understatement. You are assigned reading that will take around a couple of hours to finish and somewhat comprehend. This class is NOT an easy A as it's coursework and tests are way more rigorous than other visual arts/CC classes. However, the dude is very friendly and approachable.

Overall its a long lecture that puts you to sleep about god knows what because you cant hear or understand him, he gets off topic easily, the slides dont help you to study, THERE IS SO MUCH READING, the quizzes are made to make you fail, the tests dont prove your knowledge, only how fast you can write, and I hated every second of it.

Professor Galinsky is a true gem of a professor here at UT. If you have the chance to take one of his classes at some point I would highly recommend it. His World Changers UGS course was my most enjoyable last semester. If you are active in lecture and discussion and read (there is a lot of it), then he will treat you with the utmost respect.

If you're looking for an easy UGS, this is not it!! Without prior knowledge to Roman history you will struggle. 4 books to read, a few movies to watch, weekly discussion papers, and a few quizzes and tests.

Super interesting topics, lectures are kinda boring but he posts the slides which is helpful. Friday discussions are mandatory, so make sure to go to those and bring your discussion papers. He learned everyone's names which is pretty awesome. You have four books you need to read for the essay tests, make sure to read and annotate.

Karl was awesome. I took him for World Changers and he learned all of the student's names and actively engaged us in class. Lectures aren't mandatory, but the discussion sections are because you have a small paper due every week and there is an actual discussion that is very helpful in understanding course material.

I took this class freshman year and after the twenty or so professors I have had so far, Galinsky was my favorite. I know it sounds cliche, but he made history come alive. With great descriptions of battles, decisions by leaders, and what day-to-day life was, he not only prepared us well for the tests, but created a sense of wonder and excitement

I had Dr. Galinsky in 1969 and I just read all of the current reviews. Guess what everything that was mentioned was also true that many years ago. He was one of the best professors I had at University of Texas with funny comments on current events at that time!

This class was so interesting!! Its leadership and values of the ancient world. The lectures move pretty fast and there is a fair amount of reading. But Galinsky is quite intelligent and he loves what he teaches. Amazing class and it wasnt too bad even though I had never taken an ancient history course before.

Galinsky is very well-informed on what is going on in the world. Although he is older, he still knows what is up. For film, we watch movies every week outside of class and have to keep up with course readings. He may not call you out specifically for a response, but he does reward people with insightful comments. Good prof.

One of the best proffessors I had. The reading is definitely helpful, but I didn't do them all and still did well. Summaries online were sufficient. He and his TA had test review sessions. The TA review was the most helpful for the exam. He is very passionate about the topic. Studying notes and ppts are the best way to study for quizzes and test

Lectures are confusing at first until you get the hang of his teaching style but it gets easier after the first exam. 5 multiple choice quizzes over very specific material but he drops the lowest, 3 noncumulative essay exams that are very fairly graded. Lectures slides are posted online but in strange shorthand thats hard understand if not in class

The lectures are interesting. The PowerPoints always have lots of pictures and he likes to make jokes and pop culture references in lectures. But get ready to read, read, read! Overall we read like 4 novels plus a lot of the textbook. Exams count for the majority of your grade, and each exam is writing one really long essay from a prompt.
