Comment:
Doesn't really explain concepts, just uses examples that he doesn't explain and you can't see the board because he blocks it. Gives outlines for tests which is helpful but expect to have to learn all the material outside of class. His grading scale is easy but the test are almost impossible so you still end up with a bad grade.

I have the utmost respect for Dr. Benofy. He teaches with passion, and really wants the students to pass. I learned early in the semester that he pushes you to the extreme, but that is because he is a physicist and loves math. He will tell you that he did not do well in Calc 2, use that as motivation!

Dr. Benofy is intimidating at first but by the end of my semester with him, I was recommending him to everyone. He gives you an EXACT outline of every test and every quiz and the final as well. The only way you could fail is if you didn't study at all. His grading scale is different: a C is a 55%. I would take him over again if I could.

I had Dr. Benofy for Quantum Mechanics. I was the only physics major that year & the only student in the class. Despite this, he proceeded to teach as though he were in front of a large audience. When I asked questions he insisted that I should have learned that material in a math class and kept to his pace. I expected more. I guess he did too.

25% of grades are quizzes which are based on homework. Complete homework & ask about problems you don't understand during office hours & you'll be fine. Tests are much harder. Lowest 2 quizzes are dropped. Attendance is mandatory, doesn't teach from book, only teaches from notes. Not always clear, not best teacher.

Go to office hrs and dont be scared of him. Gives an outline with what will be on tests. TAKE GOOD NOTES AND STUDY THEM. He often gives clues to exactly what will be on the quizzes & tests, write those comments down! If you dont know the information in and out going into the tests, you wont finish. WORK HARD and you can get an A. A 50% is a C-

There's not enough time to finish his exams. To do well you must know how to do everything at lightning speed. His multiple choices are almost always tricky. He however, is always available in office hours. Sometimes he makes you feel very stupid though.

Everyone says he is the most difficult Calc II professor at SLU. They're probably right. You have to work very hard to do well in his class. I think he may pick favorites, so do try and get on his good side! I also think he makes the class easier as the semester progresses. I definitly recommend him: you'll learn a lot and you'll work a lot.

Incedibly smart man, but is so intelligent that he can't bring knowledge down to a teaching level. Very old, but extremely organized. Weekly quizzes, 3 tests and a final. Anything above an 80 is an A, so you know it's difficult...

Dr. Benofy is one of the most exceptional teachers at SLU. He emphasizes the importance of attendance and doing the homework problems at the very beginning of the semester, so go to class and do the hw! Don't be afraid to ask for help. He can be intimidating at times but he knows exactly how to explain it clearly! Do not fall behind!

I used to love math and now i cant stand it, he made me hate subject. He assigns homework problems but doesnt go over them.. He says the tests are just like the homework but they are not, they are 10 times harder than anything you will do in class... I spent hours and hours on his class and still failed.

The easiest way to get an A in this class is to 1) go to class and 2) do EVERY HW problem he assigns. This guy is a genius no matter how much everyone despises him. He takes attendance mentally, because he will have every person in the 100+ class memorized after the first test. Work hard, ask your friends questions before him

Okay so if you're a premed and reading this you're used to hard classes. This one is no exception. But Benofy does a good job in trying to help students. And honestly if you're lazy and don't go to class why should you deserve a good grade? Work hard, show him you're trying and you'll be fine. Work really hard.

Horrible class, do not take it at slu. Take it at UMSL if you need it, much easier in the summer, and this teacher is just a disaster, he doesn't believe in technology, tons of formulas to memorize, no cards allowed, better get a prog scientific calculator if you have trouble. Although the HW problems are exactly like the test problems. Good Luck!

He expects three things. 1:show up to class on time every time. 2:pay attention and work all homework problems. 3:do things HIS way, not your way. If you have trouble with any of these, you and him will have problems. Just do exactly what he says to do, exactly how he says to do it and you will do fine.

His tests was hard. But you will learn a lot from his class. If you missed one class, you will need more time to catch up. He is not that helpful in his office hours. You'd better study with your classmates rather than go to his office hours to ask him.

Had Benofy for Calc. II; he writeS very neat & explains examples very thoroughly; office hours & 1 on 1 Q&A are very helpful; day before tests, he will tell you what to expect--TAKE NOTES!; exams are straightforward & partial credit is always given as long as effort is present; pop quizzes are easy--straight from HW, so do HW!--HIGHLY RECOMMEND
