Hartmann is a very nice woman and super understanding when things come up. She can be a bit frazzled but tries her hardest. The class is pretty easy, she assigns textbook readings but goes over it all in class. Just take notes and you'll do fine.

The class itself was not much an abundance of work. Overall there were about five homework assignments that had to be turned in and only two essays. With that being said, the tests were not easy. You definitely had to study in class notes and skipping class was not recommended.

Overall, the course is fine! It's actually cool to learn about how firms compete in different industries. Professor Hartmann is a character. I would recommend that you get on her good side. Participate a lot in class!! Sometimes she will flip out in class for no reason; it's awkward. She also doesn't respect personal space. :/

She is a very energetic and quirky individual. She taught the material well and everything on her tests came from the lecture. Participate so you can get on her good side. Homework is graded on compleation and 75% fo your grade will be based on the tests. Also, there is one paper at the end of the semester. Overall, she was a great professor.

Honestly the worst econ professor at UST. Hartmann wants the class the teach itself. She flipped out today because no one was participating. Most of the HW groups got so many points taken off their assignments. I guess it reflects her awful teaching style.

Let me just begin by saying this professor does not like to teach as she should. She expects everyone to understand/remember all 30+ pages of reading and gets mad when no one participates. Does not explain things well and goes way too fast. I'm paying so much money to learn, it's ridiculous. Not very helpful outside of class either. Stay away!

I LOVE HER. She is so funny and so sweet. Incredibly enthusiastic about economics. This class is easy by no means but if you show up to class and study hard for the tests you can do well. She is very clear about what she expects on the tests, though she is very particular about answers. Take her. Take her. Take her.

She is so passionate! If you value learning more than easy A, take her!!! I learned so much! As a freshman business major, I feel like everything I learned will be super helpful. She is so efficient-you NEED to go to class. Tests are tough, but she does these great office hours study sessions. She's so helpful and super funny in her own quirky way.

You dont need to love econ to take her class. Dr. Hartmann is so enthusiastic about economics that it makes you want to learn it. The tests are tough, but there is nothing on them she doesn't teach in class. She sets up lots of one on one office hours and can teach you anything you didn't get in class really quickly.

Hands down my favorite professor at UST! She's quirky, but she has such a passion for Econ. Show her (or fake it) that you have a passion to and she will make sure that you succeed! I absolutely loved her. Her lectures and clear and efficient, no wasted material. Tests are hard but you learn so much in the class! Can't praise her enough!

She really knows her stuff but is a very harsh grader. Tests are not easy and she docks points for little things. Typically an A student received a C in the class.

Professor Hartman was the best professor I have had at St. Thomas. She knows so much about the material. She breathes, eats, and sleeps economics. She really wants her students to well. The class is by no means easy, but well worth your money...you learn a lot.

Professor Hartmann is a great professor, I would highly recommend her. She is a little quirky and really into Econ but she gives very clear notes and as long as you show up to class, pay attention and study you will do well. She is also very willing to help you outside of class if you are having trouble understanding anything.
