Comment:

Lectures could get pretty dull, but he's very specific about what he wants you to do. As long as you fulfill his guidelines he can be pretty fair. Best part of the course was going to see two plays during the semester, but you have to write papers on both afterward. He could be a little abrasive at times, but he wasn't terrible.

Walters is the least helpful professor I've had in a long time. I really love theater and was looking forward to this class.... but to my surprise the professor can make even the most interesting subject matter completely unintelligible. After being sick he would't accept my official doctors note because I didn't email him before class started.

This man is not patient. I kept on his good side throughout the year, but he is a tactless person with minimal to no attention span. he will take points off quizes if you write something like "jewelry" instead of "gold jewelry"...be very specific, otherwise you are bound to fail.

Comparing the work load required with my room mate who is Art History, this class is actually a lot easier. There are a lot of little quizzes and a lot of plays to be read, but in the long run it really isn't that bad. Besides, sometimes there will be movies or class will be canceled because of an opening play, so you do get a lot of breaks.

anyone giving him a good review is obviously part of the theater clique. if you're not a theater major he could care less about you & he'll go out of his way to make things difficult. if he doesn't agree with you 100% he'll fail you on tests and papers. when i asked him exactly what he was looking for he said 'well that's up to you to figure out'

Ridiculous class for a ridiculous teacher. AVOID this class. Worst teacher ever. requires you to go to a play sponsored by the school which SUCK and write a critique about it and if you are not teachers pet you will get a C or worse. Do not take this class to fill your Fine art credit.

Larry has a bad habit of going off on tangents. He always has a story for everything! Doesn't matter what the book says, because often times he says "The book says this, but i think this.." All you do everyday is sit and listen to him lecture..all day every day. His tests suck

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS TO FILL YOUR FINE ARTS REQUIREMENT. It was WAY too hard for a 100-level class. Although he more or less tells you what will be on the tests, it is a lot of memorization and too much information for a 100-level class. He's a nice guy, but you should definitely fill your fine arts requirement with a different class.

This guy may like theatre students but he sure doesn't like those taking Theatre 100 to complete their fine arts requirement. He thinks its his job to make them academically "respect" theatre by artificially making his class and tests difficult. Sadly, his idea of challenging is you must give him EXACTLY what he thinks, no disagreements allowed.

He is a very thorough teacher. His world is theatre, so make sure you care about the subject if you take this course. For a 100 level class, it is a lot, but if you pay attention, take good notes and do the critiques, you have a prayer of a B. He is a VERY tough grader, so make sure he knows you like the subject, or he'll treat you like a slaker.

Walters is the worst professor I've ever had. He does not care about anyone or anything if it doesn't involve theatre. I woked my ass off in that class and still struggled to get a semi-decent grade. He grades tests ridiculously hard. DO NOT FILL YOUR FINE ARTS REQUIREMENT WITH THIS CLASS!!!!!

It's too much work for a 100 level class. I have more work in this, than in my third year humanities class. He's very specific about what he wants and if you don't give it to him, he doesn't like you. If you like theater you will learn a lot. If you are in it for a pre-req take someting else.

I took this class caus I needed to fill my fine arts requirement...bad idea. If you are an engineer you can take DANCE 266 to take care of both fine arts and diveristy wich I would have known that before I took this class. Walters makes you read 10 plays, you have to do 20 lab hours or 4 critiques which suck, and you have to take four tests too!

Simple concept: show some interest and eagerness to learn. If you do that, you'll get Larry's respect pretty quickly. He really knows what's going on in a theater and makes sure that each point he wants you to learn is brought up in class. He is thorough, and this carries over to his tests. If you are a slouch, you'll have a hard time.

**** you guys, walters is the****... he's cool as hell and extremely helpful if you are a good student and show a genuine interest in the class. show some interest and eargerness to learn and the class will be extremely fun and rewarding.
