Really knowledgeable professor, boring lectures, easy material AND you get to bring 'cheat sheets'. The problem I have with her is her incredibly pedantic grading. You can get all of the answers correct, but if it's not presented in her specific way, then you'll lose an unnecessary amount of points.

Stats are stats. She gives you what you need to excel in the class but also grades pretty harshly -- granted, she also applies a nice curve. Class isn't mandatory and if you do go, she'll pick on something from what you say. "the answer is 3.183" "well, actually, the answer is 3.18 because according to the syllabus you round to 2 decimals"...

She is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Point blank. Don't take her class. Stats was one of my favorite classes before her class. She is the most boring professor and is not kind. She kind of makes you feel bad about yourself. And it's not like I am doing badly in the class..? Only perk is the cheat sheet you get to have for tests.

Not the most engaging lecturer. You can do well if you pay close attention and take good notes in class in addition to knowing how to do the homework. Graded on an actual curve, so only around a fourth of the class gets a solid A.

Not the best lecturer - must pay attention and take good notes. Not many examples to study from which is difficult. Can get a good grade if pay close attention. Allows a sheet of notes on test which is really helpful.

People here are wusses. Have y'all never had a good teacher before? Prof. Novick simply has expectations of her students to be thoughtful scholars who put effort into their work. Sure, she's boring in class, but she teaches you the skills to conduct statistical analyses and produce the written work for research articles. Highly recommend.

The professor is a very boring teacher. She is also extremely picky about stuff you write in your exams and all the sorts. This is one of those classes that is supposed to be straightforward and an easy A but she tries to make it extremely demanding. One can finish the class being an expert on statistical analysis and still get a terrible grade.

she is so freaking boring. She is not helpful in or outside of class. Is extremely picky about tests. All written and super long. Does not explain content well and she is not very nice when you ask a question. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

Exactly like other reviews have stated: cold, condescending, and occasionally outright mean. Verbally berated the TA in front of the class a few times. C averages on tests bc of ridiculous grading criteria (although she grades on a curve so top half of class gets A-/A), but lets you have a cheat sheet so you don't need to actually learn . EASY A-

Professor Novick is terrible. She teaches the most boring class in the history of the world, and she is MEAN - like really mean. Don't bother asking her questions because she will just respond with condescending sass. Peabody stats is supposed to be easy, but she curves the class so she makes sure someone fails every semester. Just horrible.

Comment:
Professor Novick is not warm and bubbly but, she is clear in her teaching and class examples. The class material is incredible dull and dry, Professor Novick's teaching style does not change that. However, the class is graded on a curve and it is possible to do well. Take advantage of her office hours with homework questions. Hard tests.

Prof. Novick is one of the worst professors I've had at this School. Her lectures are boring, her grading can be arbitrary, and she is not very helpful/accommodating either. I would not recommend taking a course with her...

Even though Professor Novick lives in the statistical dinosaur age and does not convey an appreciation for modern statistical techniques to intro. students, her teaching material cuts to the heart of ordinary psychological research practice and is highly relevant. Dull but informative, her lectures are usually worth attending.

WARNING: this is the worst professor of my whole life. She encourages class participation, but is SO rude and patronizing if you say something wrong. her exams are very specific, and her lectures are very unorganized. She is boring, dry, unhelpful, and frankly should not be teaching. If you think you can take her class, DONT. no matter what.

Extremely dry and unhelpful. I did not learn anything in the class. This is an intro to stat class that primarily covered material I had previously learned in my AP class- and thank God it did. I would not have been able to do well in the class without this previous background in the material. Boring lectures and confusing teacher.

This class isn't easy, but if you go to class and do the homework, you will do fine. She grades on a curve so no worries. The tests are pretty hard, but I'm sure there is some secret to doing better than I did. I think you'd be fine in her class. She's not cuddly or friendly, but she does know statistics very well.

Professor Novick is one of those brilliant minds whose thinks logically. She is a scientist, not an artist, therefore, her classes are not imaginative, rather they are structured and get straight to the point. She is actually very helpful and approachable though she seems intimidating at first. She goes out of her way to assist interested students

I wish I had nicer things t say about the class because Novick is actually a pretty nice person. The class is boring, needlessly difficult, aggravating, uninspiring, etc...and Novick certainly does nothing to make it any better. Would have skipped it if I could.
