Do not take this professor unless you have no other choice. If you do, be sure to visit during office hours and TRY to ignore her condescending remarks. DO NOT approach her during the class. I got an A+ but only because I went to other lectures. It is also important that you keep up with the hw if you cannot take anyone else

you ever hear about those kind of professors that have half or more of their class failing, and still blames the students? the kind of profs that take something you already know, make you unlearn it, get bad grades and make you doubt yourself? yea... I took AP Calc in high school and I couldn't get it. She does online AND paper HW. just stay away.

She will talk more about how people don't pay attention and how she doesn't actually want to be there more than actually teach. She is very clear about things when she does teach, but if you ask questions be prepared to be condescended. If you have perfect attendance she will bump your grade up 1% at the end of the semester which can really help.

Very solid teacher, but do not skip class and do not show up and text friends. She doesn't curve, and your grade will reflect how well you know the material.

By far the worst teacher I have ever had. I attened every class and still had to literally teach myself everything. She does not teach any of the concepts, instead she puts up examples and expects you to know how to do them even if you have never had calculus. No review sheets for tests, no curving or ec at all. Take with different teacher!!

My piece of advice for this class: DO NOT FALL BEHIND. This class itself is pretty challenging but the professor is pretty good at answering your questions or clarification after class and during office hours.

Dr. Maris is the toughest MAT243 (Discrete Math) professor at ASU, and also has a bit of an attitude. If you take her class, you should at least skim the chapter before lecture, take notes, and find one or more study buddies. She is helpful when you ask questions, but sometimes comes off as condescending. Don't fall behind, either!

By far the worst teacher I've ever had. If you take her class be prepared to teach most of the material to yourself. Assigns a ton of homework and is just an obnoxious person in general.

Literally the worst teacher I've ever had, and I'm not just complaining because of my grade, I did fine in the class, but no thanks to her, I did it on my own time. She kicked her entire class out one time because someone was laughing with her back turned and told us to teach ourselves the lesson for the day... No point for the teacher anyways

Worst math teacher I have ever encountered. She would go half way through problems and stop, saying that we could figure out the rest on our own. She sarcastically said that our "sighs" and "bored faces" made it so exciting to teach. What I think is that it is her fault. She moves too fast with no explanation. Drop class get a new professor.

Avoid this professor if you can. She goes through the material so fast that most of the students cannot understand her. She is not helpful during class but she is very helpful during office hours. In addition, she talks every day about how she will be happy when she fails to whole class.

If you take this professor, be sure to visit in office hours. In lecture she's obnoxious, but when you ask her a question outside of class, she's very friendly and helpful. She's a stickler for detail, and isn't generous with the partial credit. If you're motivated and detail oriented you'll be fine.

This teacher was beyond frustrating. The amount of "lectures" my class received for poor performance and attention span was a little ridiculous. My class had a 40% pass rate. Completely unresponsive to emails of any sort, even after repeated attempts it was hard to get more than a one word response (this wasn't even homework help). Avoid.

By far and away the worst professor at ASU. She does not elaborate on anything taught within the class and my guess is that she doesn't understand the material herself. She doesn't want to be there and makes you not want to be there. She hates working grading so she would just find the slightest excuse to completely disregard an answer.

Classes consist of her writing out very formal proofs and definitions with no explanation followed by a few examples from the homework set... and that's it. She discourages students from asking questions and gets visibly frustrated when asked to elaborate. Little to no partial credit on homework or tests. Save your money, sign up for someone else.

The worst teacher I have ever had. Period. Hands down. And math is one of my key interests, best subjects, crucial to my major. I've never had a teacher that has cause me to feel more sad, anxious, and angry because of the demeaning way she speaks to students. I got an A in the course, only because the TA was good and I'd taken calculus before.

I didn't care for her teaching style. Very quickly covers the information then straight into performing exercises without adequetly explaining the topic. Very tough grading, no curve, little or no partial credit. Homework is excessively long. There is a partial communication barrier due to her accent. If u want a harsh, strict teacher, u got it.
