Such a pain. Lectures are so uninteresting to me. Many people dropped like tenfold. I usual do well in chemistry, not this time around. Tests are difficult. Study up.

He is not an easy teacher if you are like to slack off a lot. Definitely read and understand the materials well because his tests are critical thinking type. It is not obvious to figure out everything right away. Make sure to know how to do the labs too because he put lab questions on tests. His tests are tough.

This is a hard class and you really really need to survive the first half of the semester, and you have to get used to his teaching style. Not clear so I suggest you read ahead then you'll understand better. Almost half of the students dropped, but those who were back got good grades. He is always willing to help during his office hour.

I got a C, by the grace of god lol. That was a hard class. although i missed at least half of the lectures. most of the quizzes were pretty easy. but the tests were fairly hard. he goes off a lot on random stories about him living in new jersey. itd be funny... if you weren't dying for class to be over.

I reviewed this before taking his class, but I thought if I worked hard enough, I would be able to survive the class but I was WRONG! His lectures were almost useless and tests were difficult. I'd never seen any instructor placing a textbook on the projector and read in front of class while we can read it ourselves. AVOID Souto if possible.

Don't waste time doing all hw problems, just some. study previous exams but know how to do the reverse b/c that is what he puts on exam. i have 2 chem180 books for sale same edition he uses, please email me if you want them much cheaper than bookstore. dredre81@gmail.com

Not the best teacher if you have no background in chemistry, his tests are hard and really are not like the hw problems but definately take the time to go and look at old exams because they are similar. And the class has a pretty generous curve not impossible to get an A, but chem 130 would help for this class unless you can find a better teacher

Took intro to chemistry be fore taking this guy. I got an A in intro to chem and now in this Chem 180 class with souto i am getting a C and have a chance at failing. He goes off on tangents, tests do not correlate to notes or book. Impossible to work with teacher. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO TAKE SOUTO! He is WORTHLESS! Honest truth.

Tests are a nightmare. Basically any equation in the book that doesnt have an example with it will be on the test. Skips huge parts of chapters then quizes over missing parts. Lab he is never there. He leaves for an hour comes back for 20 seconds then leaves. Doesn't tell you why you got something wrong, you just got it wrong. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS

He is awful. His lectures consist of pointing to already done book problems.Eams are layered problems that are unlike class problems!Doesn?t do any other examples.New unseen problems on test ?I don?t care about your grades;I only care if you can do the problems.?Aren't our grades based on how well we are taught to do the problems?ridiculous.

his idea of teaching is guided reading, meaning ? he points to the book on the overhead projector and reads out loud; his grading is absolutely draconian; his interest in students learning anything in his class is nonexistent; in summary: AVOID IF YOU CAN

His lectures are EXTREMELY BORING. His tests are either higher level than the recommended HWs or have nothing related to them. We have 25p in the lab from the begining, but there are 12 left by now (not even the 3rd test yet) Don't take unless you smart or study real hard.

Don't take this class unless you are naturally very smart. His tests feel like IQ tests - FAR more difficult than textbook/notes. Everyone fails his tests and then he curves. Rambles during lecture - very funny guy.

I have nothing positive to say about this instructor. He spends much of the lecture talking about himself and the good old days. His tests frequently include material not found in either the required chapters or in the lectures. He does not care if his students learn or not, making him one of the worst instructors that I have ever had.

I got highest score in his class with more than 100% because I did the extra credits. He does not require you to attend class. If you do all the problems in the textbook and go to ask him in his office, you can do well in the test. However, his test is pretty tricky. I do not recommend him for anyone who are not hard working.

Must attend class, must read the book, must do the hw, must study the lab. He will trick you and his tests are much harder than the typical chem test. Study hard, but the grade you get will discourage you, but if the FINAL grade is all you care about, then his curves are super high since majority of students fail everything!

ATTEND lecture, READ the book, and DO and UNDERSTAND how to do the recommended hw & practice exam problems. If all else fails, ASK for HELP from either your peers or professor! Souto means well by his harsh words of preparing us for the real world. Cares about students' learning - gets the whole class participate in lectures & work in groups in lab
