She knows her stuff, but she really doesn't know how to teach it to where her students are actually going to learn the material. She gives way too much online homework, to the point where it gets in the way of actually taking time to study the material. She expects way too much of her students' time.

Wonderful. TTU is fortunate to have a scholar like Dr. Laurila in the Department of Foreign Languages. With regards to "avoiding her," I would advise students to do only if they 1.) aren't there to work or 2.) aren't there to learn--and use--Spanish. A very caring, down-to-earth, and approachable individual. I have no negative comments.

This was a fairly easy class, except for the oral exam at the end. She had us partner up with 4 prompts to study. No one knew which one they would get until they got there. The conversation had to be 5 minutes long, but she didnt grade that hard on it. Go to class! She will call on you to answer in spanish. Tests are easy. A lot of homework though.

No he tenido ningÃƒÂºn problema con ella y francamente no entiendo las quejas de los demÃƒÂ¡s. Hay que participar en su clase, claro, pero esto hace falta de todos modos. Lo mÃƒÂ¡s importante es que sigas haciendo lo mÃƒÂ¡s posible y trabajes duramente, participando y dando tu propia opiniÃƒÂ³n. Me encanta su clase.

Comment:

One of the most eager and well-organized Spanish professors I've ever had. She takes an interest in her students and really shows her passion for the subject matter. She also pushes you to grow in both Spanish speaking, writing, and your cultural understandings. It's a tough class, but I enjoyed it.

Doesn't know how to teach. Grades natives harder. Test are horrible. Avoid taking Span for Busi. if you don't need it!!! I worked really hard and still ended up with a C. Nothing I wrote was ever worthy of an A even though I would get the info for the book!!! She made me dislike the class even more than I already did.

Personally,even though she says she doesn't, I think she grades native speakers harder. I'm not the only native speaker who thinks so,& it's not only natives that think so. I found myself with a B on my presentation when I did a better job than others who also got a B. She's always been pretty nice to me but unfair in my opinion. Tests are hard!!!

At first, she seemed pretty much incomprehensible because she was speaking such complex Spanish, but then she figured out the class's learning level and slowed down quite a bit. Although her class is one of the easiest I've ever taken, when you're done you won't feel like you learned very much.

The problem I had with this teacher is her really bad teaching skills. Her syllabus is equally unclear. Hence, she doesn't give a care if the whole class has no clue whatsoever what she is saying. She should stick to being the Head of the department. Teaching is just not her thing.

Study your vocab! She will pick obscure verbs for each test that aren't used much during the chapter. She got a lot easier after she got a feel for the classes ability. Fist test I bombed but the rest I scored 90+ . Oh, and she's hot
