Comment:

The class it self was not hard, Fonseca is just not a good instructor. Shes very vague when it comes to feedback on essays (so you will not know what you need to improve on to do better for future papers in her class) and essays are majority of your grade, so you better be an amazing writer to do well in this class.

Comment:

I liked Mrs. Fonseca, the class was pretty easy. She basically lines out everything she wants you to put in your essay, making it almost impossible to fail. She also offered chances for students to redo essays & turn them back in. She assigns journals that are due every Wednesday, easy points. Everyone should pass this class.

Very difficult professor. Get ready to write lots of papers and be prepared for lots of lectures. She lectures a lot!!!! I'd say half the time spent in class is spent listening to her lecture. She doesn't give good feedback and is a very tough grader. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!!!

Comment:

She's not a great teacher. I excelled in every English class I've ever taken with flying colors then I get to her class and it is all 70s. Her feedback is vague and not helpful and it would appear as if I get poor grades because I do not agree with her opinions. She also fails to make instructions clear and penalizes her students for her mistakes.

Disrespectful. A loud mouth bully. Rude. Instead of teaching class lesson she targets the student's that don't have books and spends the semester playing musical chairs so that she harass those students even more.

Professor Fonseca is phenomenal! She is super laid back, but also makes YOU work for your grade. She wants her students to do well, but won't spoon feed you. Most of the class was discussing short stories, plays and poems. She's really great at helping you get deeper into the reading and is a very kind person. Improved my analytical skills greatly

Comment:

Great teacher, really improves your analytical and writing skills. Gives help when asked, and is a fair grader. She wants her students to do well. Participate in discussions. Grade is based on 3 papers, participation, and a final. As long as you do the work and pay attention, you will get a good grade.

Very fun class, helped my writing and analytical skills greatly. Essay topics seemed dry at first but turned out quite interesting. Class grade is based on 550 total possible points but you only need 450 points to earn an A which turns out to be around an 83% average. Make sure to ask lots of clarifying questions and participate in discussions alot

I took Prof. Fonseca because I needed a scholars class and I was not looking forward to it bc of all the negative comments. All of it is correct. Her rewrites won't help u get a better grade only 0-2pts. She wants u to write about her opinions and based on the book. She'll help u better as a writer but will also ruin ur gpa. You're better off.

Her class is very laid back. We discuss the stories that are assigned for you from the night before. No home work, 3 papers and a final that she allows you to bring notes for. She really cares about the students. She is a tough grader but she allows you to do rewrites. Just participate and pay attention to her feedback.

It seems like a lot of students downgrade her just because of her less lenient grading criteria but if you want to really improve your writing for the sake of learning, take Professor Fonseca. She genuinely cares about the betterment of her students and is readily available whether it's for reviewing essays or aiding with transfer preparation.

Overall she is a decent teacher, but not an easy class- Scholars English. I did have to work hard in this class. There are 4 essays and she lets you rewrite them. There is one 10 page research paper due at the end of the semester, but u know about it the first class & she collects work all along, so its hard to leave it till last minute.

I took Prof. Fonseca in the Winter in 2014. She only assigned three papers. She was very clear in what she expected and allowed us to redraft our papers with her comments in mind. She truly wants her class to understand the material and we always had very insightful interesting lectures. Got an A and had a lot of fun.

Very nice lady! Doesn't give too much work but attempts to make up for that with in class discussions. You have 3 essays the whole year and a final. She grades very hard on the essays but gives you the opportunity to rewrite them to get a better grade. If you rewrite you essays based on her corrections you will improve your grade.

Insofar as workload, there's very little. The main problem with her teaching is that she rarely, if ever, lectures on how to write well and never tells the class how she grades. The whole process is pretty ambiguous. I wrote a spectacular paper that was reviewed by upper level college writing students who were surprised that she gave me a 70%.
