If you are looking for an easy A, forget about it. This class is by far one of the most informative and educational music classes that I have ever taken. Robinson is very knowledgeable and he knows about music. I took his class at Mesa and I really enjoyed it but hard work, alot of reading and notes ARE required. Test are hard, so study and pay alot of attention. GREAT instructor!!

hated organization of course material. good drummer, enjoyed collection of instruments. tough grader. I got marked wrong on things I wrote directly from his quotes in class. treated us badly, insulting our writing skills and efforts as a whole class. I thrive on positive reinforcement. not a good combo. Lets kid sleep in class Not fun class :0(

He's a great teacher. Knows just about everything there is to know about world music. A bit abrasive if you don't take things seriously, but he's got a good sense of humor and is an honest expert at what he does.

Cool guy. Tells it like it is. An honest musical genius who plays something like 85 instruments. If you show interest, he'll be one of your favorites

N. Scott is the man. This class is not very interesting, but if you go to class and try your best to participate, you will do fine. Show an interest in the material, and he'll like you. Don't bother with the readings, he doesn't test on them. Study for the tests, or you'll do bad. Take notes in class, because everything comes straight from them!

I really enjoyed this class. It definitely taught more than just different genres of rock and roll but the background history as well. Professor is really nice and responds to emails quickly. 3 Tests plus a final exam but they're all open book open note.

Pretty okay class. I knew nothing about music and managed to get an A. Go to every class, copy notes, and you'll do fine. The book isn't necessary to buy, but good for clarification. The professor is very opinionated, and no matter what you say, you're wrong...so I kept quite. Overall, good gen ed class.

This class is amazing and the professor is awesome. 6 absences is a fail but will work with you. I got an A and I had ten absences. Hes very down to earth will talk to you about anything. open note 4 exams. 1 paper that requires going to 3 or more concerts and/or restaurants. Great class, great guy. prepares you to think outside the box. take this.

You will get a B in this class, case closed. Even if you study and write down verbatim what he says, you will get a B. Exams are open note BUT BEWARE b/c what you write down in your notes (that came straight from his mouth) he may mark incorrect on an exam, and when you point it out to him, he will say "Your notes don't prove anything"

History of Rock is a very interesting class. I learned alot about rock and roll that i never knew about before. No textbook required and tests are open note. Easy final project. As long as you take very good notes, this is a great gen-ed course.

He's a pretty good professor. He's a good lecturer and you can understand everything he's saying, and he has a good wit. Not the best class I've ever taken, but it was interesting and cool! If you need a good Gen-ed, then take MUSC 127. History of Rock. The fact that a professor teaches such a thing is awesome in itself.

I took N. Scott for both MUSC 127 & class. He is not only AMAZING and funny but he actually gets you interested in whatever he is teaching. History of Rock was obviously my favorite and I think it's his favorite too. Easy tests, no book for 127 and sometimes he checks attendance but he stops half-semester. He is wonderful. TAKE HIM :)

I liked this guy - he obviously knows and loves all this obscure music (though he makes up facts sometimes...) and it's hard not to get interested in it yourself. The tests are not very difficult.. certainly nothing compared to history 1/2. The hardest part is the amount of extra projects- there is quite a bit of homework involved.

I actually miss that class a lot. Most of us fill our schedule with classes that will help us get jobs, but we have no interest in. Who can honestly tell me that they never wanted to know where their favorite music came from...and get academic credit for it!? This class takes work, but it's worth it. It will def give you something to talk about.

Tests are on listening examples and class notes, don't bother with the text. A lot is recall, so study! There are small homework assignments now and then and grades for playing chords on piano - easy stuff. I think there were 3 test total.

Extremely biased in material presentation, it's very shamelessly commercial.
