Comment:
Overall Dr. Berman is a great professor and very knowledgeable, but if you are taking the course online, then you better think twice. A lot readings to do and lots of efforts needed. If that was face to face I wont withdraw from his course.

Scott is great! If you actually put in the work, getting an A is very doable. He is very passionate about philosophy, and does a good job at trying to reexplain concepts if you're confused. However, the class in general was a fair amount of work for an intro class in my opinion.

Scott is honestly such a great professor! He very obviously cares and knows a lot about his subject, and he loves debating and questioning his students. The material can be a lot to comprehend, especially for an intro philosophy course, but I think Scott does a great job of explaining everything!

Comment:
Philosophy 105 was my first philosophy class and it was not instructed as your usual classes are. If you pay attention in discussion and take notes, this class is easy and super interesting. The content of the class is based on what your papers are about. Scott obviously cares about his students education & is willing to help them understand.

Comment:
For an intro Philosophy class this class is so hard. It honestly makes no sense and I leave every class feeling more confused about philosophy than when I came. Scott might be a good teacher for upper level classes, but for an intro class, that has nothing to do with my major its too much.

I thought the class was much too difficult for an freshmen intro course. I left the class much more confused about philosophy than I was when I entered it.

I've never taken a philosophy class before. For an intro to philosophy class, this seemed pretty tough and not very introductory, but I feel as though he understands this and is willing to teach more slowly and in depth when students do not understand.

Dr. Berman, or Scott as he will tell you to call him, is one of the best teachers I have ever had. There are only three papers throughout the whole semester and he is absolutely willing to meet with you and help you make your paper as good as you want to make it. Easy A.

Dr. Berman, or Scott as he likes to be called, is an amazing teacher. Instead of tests he gives 3 of these things called tutorial which are kind of papers. He is super helpful when you have questions about these so they are never too hard. Take his class if you can!

You have to do the readings and go to class if you want a good grade, but if you do the work, it is hard to get below an A-

Scott, he does not go by Dr. Berman, is a phenomenal professor! He relates all of the material to his life and he makes it easier to understand. There are 3 papers in the semester, and he is willing to help you with all 3. Scott wants you to succeed in his class. If you put in the work, then you will get an A!

Scott (as he lets you call him) tries as hard as he can to make philosophy more bearable. He gladly revisits points when you have questions and will edit multiple drafts when you email them to him. I recommend using a lot of examples in your papers.

A really great guy, willing to help as often as you need it. 3 "tutorial" papers are insanely difficult, especially for a 100 level class. Class discussion went way over our heads pretty often. You have to do the readings which require a lot of thought. Grade is based on 3 papers and participation in class discussion.

Best teacher i've had at SLU, he wants everyone to succede and despite the difficult material you can still get a good grade, i took him twice and the first time i never sent him any rough drafts of papers but the second time i did and my grades showed. Use him as a resource, he's the best.

Great teacher, one of the most helpful teachers I've ever had. Makes philosophy fun and interesting. Always willing to give you his opinion and help on your papers, no matter how many times you ask him to. Short class for just three weeks, but well worth taking it over the summer.

Really good guy, really hard class. If you understand Plato and Aristotle, then you will have a good time with this class. If you're like me, however, you will work your butt off to get only a B or C. He is helpful if you ask for it. The class is difficult, confusing, but interesting. It makes you really have to think and question your thoughts.

Scott is really cool. His class is fairly easy, but the Tutorials are difficult and take a lot of time. Each tutorial is worth 1/3 of your grade, and encompasses everything learned prior to Tutorial.

Great teacher and a great intro to philosophy. Very helpful if you have any questions or just want to send in some rough drafts for your tutorials. If you demonstrate that you care about the class and work hard you will get an A without any problem. Have fun, it's an awesome class!
