She is a good professor. She goes through lecture VERY quickly, so you have to concentrate the whole way through. Even though the material is tough and hard to follow sometimes, she is good at clarifying. If you have to take her, it's a lot of work, but you'll do alright. :)

I had absolutely no interest in any of the lit we were assigned, but the Professor's lectures were extremely helpful. She moves fast & hates to repeat herself, but she emphasizes the most important themes. My TA was somewhat helpful in section, but gave really vague essay criticism. Class is heaving in reading & writing, esp. the mid-term & final!

Comment:
Professor Miller is an excellent source of renaissance and medieval literature. Her emphasis on language, contrary to popular opinion, is remarkably insightful, and I believe it's a great misnomer to take credence in any of the other (fallacious)remarks made here.

Being a senior, and having taken co-undergrad/graduate classes, I still was unable to untangle the theme of this Brit Lit Survey class. She abstracted simple concepts so far out of context that even I, whose Life previously was these texts with which we dealt, had extreme difficulty. She is the worst professor I have had at Temple!

Comment:
I agree with the others about her ridiculous emphasis on language;language is a nice tool to utilize, but sometimes words just sound good together. It's that simple;there isn't always a huge psychological meaning behind it. Often contradicts herself during her lectures, which confuses everyone.Gave a huge midterm and only 50 minutes to complete it.

Comment:
Prof Miller is a very knowledgable teacher but she expects a lot. She always puts emphasis on the "language" of the text but never really explains what she means. She talks really fast and half the time I left lecture not knowing anything she said. Tests are very hard and long..

I had to laugh when another reviewer mentioned Dr. Miller's emphasis on "language." She was quite obsessed with that. I had her for Eng. 114 and Shakespeare back in 1994 and 1995-6. Her grading was quite tough, but she did teach you how to improve. I did not like the Shakespeare class with her at all--she took the joy out of it.

Miller is a nice lady who usually has a smile on her face but she moves very quickly in lecture and speaks in a register that is difficult to understand at times. She is very knowledgeable and tries to get students to come to the same conclusions as herself but she moves so quickly sometimes that people get lost. Tests are pretty difficult!

Not good at all, I would say avoid her if possible. She passes everything off to the TA's who grade like harpies and won't discuss grades. Her emphasis on language is down right laughable as it is the only thing she focuses on. A downright horrible teacher and a waste of time.

Going back to college after serving in the Marines, I noticed professors requesting to be addressed as Dr, Mr, Mrs, Miss, Professor, or First name. I went to Professor Miller and asked her, what she wanted me to call her? Professor Miller or Miss Miller. Her reply, was "It's Professor! I worked hard enough for that," very rudely. What a damn ego!

I had her for Renaissance Women Writers, cross-listed as English & Women's Studies. She was absolutely great. Yes, you have to work in her class, so just don't take her if you don't like the course subject or if you're lazy. It was one of the toughest A's I ever got - and I would do it over again.

Dr. Miller has such insight into this material, you will love it too. Do the reading, show up for classes and sections, you'll do well. Learn what it means to work with the language. Have fun!

I took her for a survey course, and I really liked her. I left that class with a C, which I am not too upset about - it only made me work harder. It was good to get papers back with 2 pages of comments attached - I knew what she was looking for.

Prof Miller is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. She is VERY knowledgeable and a nice woman, but probably the toughest grader. Also she has a unorganized teaching style with unclear course objectives.Smart, but just not meant to teach.

Dr. Miller's class was the best I've ever taken... by far. She is totally brilliant and super cool. She is demanding, but definitely not too demanding. I don't agree about not being able to get an A. I got an A- with questionable attendance.

I had her for English Lit in the 1990s. She is VERY knowledgeable, and I remember a lot from her class that I share with my own students now. She's a really tough grader though - impossible to get an A, I think.

Dr. Miller is difficult, yes, but she's very up-front about it. She demands a lot from her students, but gives a lot back in return. I used to write six page papers and receive a two page, single-spaced response. Highly recommended.

She was the worst teacher I ever had. Her class was incredibly hard. The homework assignments were massive. It would take me well over 3 hours each night. She expected you to be able to understand middle english on your own. She is so pretentious.
