Comment:

Shar is a good prof. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss more than one class you won't pass. Textbook is required but was a waste of money for me, never used it. Be prepared to speak in front of the class a lot. Participation is a huge portion of your grade. Overall relatively easy class and Shar cares deeply about her students and class.

Prepare to do her work FOR her. Group projects are often assigned and papers are peer-graded as an assignment. Gives an unrealistic amount of homework, including confusing due-dates, way too much reading, and incessant presentations, Googled material. You'll put in a TON of work to have your grade tanked by a lazy partner; unfair group grading.

Don't take her course! some of you may have taken AP English Lamguage Courses im High School or have taken intro level HCOM courses which prepare you for college level writing, with Gregg she shows you her way of writing cooperative argumentation and wants you to do it her way versus letting you use methods you may already have and that work.

Comment:

One of the most genuine professors you will ever have! Her class covers a lot of content, however, and moves super fast. Content is interesting and easy to understand, you just have to stay on top of readings to do well. Grading criteria is always provided but she'll still knock points off for little things not mentioned on the criteria sheet.

She seems nice but she needs to work in her ilearn skills. Her reading responses count for a big chunk of the grade which is stupid because the reading assignments are so long so it's hard to know what she's going to bring up. Assignments are not organized online so it's easy to get lost. The worst teacher I've had at CSUMB and I'm not the only one

She was a good teacher. I felt at times that she didn't like me so that was weird. Her reading responses are quizzes so make sure you read. Her assignments are pretty straight forward. Make sure for group work you get a good group though.

Shar is a superb person and a great professor. She expects a lot out of students and gives tough assignments, as she knows that everyone who takes her class has the potential to do great things. She is clear in her expectations and is always available if you need help. Attendance is mandatory, as you will be lost if you miss more than a class.

Learned a lot from the class but she is just too opinionated and too left-winged. She says she is open-minded about arguments but if you are a legitimate argument that's against her views, it's VERY difficult to persuade her. She is very UNCLEAR in how group assignments are to be done but she is a fair grader. Go to her for help. You will need it

Honestly the ppl who are complaining about Shar's politics or values are just complaining. Never pushy about what she believes. She is inclusive in discussions and her feedback is spot on and constructive. We were never expected to do anything she didn't explain. The most personable!! Challenges students to be critical and conscientious. greatclass

Nice lady very confusing not sure she knows what she wants from projects I was surprised that she taught before cuz she acts like first time teacher - very disorganized. Way 2 opinionated 2 B good teacher. Being liberal is fine but she is in your face & doesn't concede single point. Can't maintain credibility when u r so extreme - just saying...

When she explains projects, she makes them seem a lot more difficult that they really are. It's not that she is a tough teacher, it is just that it is tough to figure out what she is really asking for. Bottom line, don't hesitate to ask for help. Her office hours are there for a reason. I would recommend taking her if you want a lot of work...

Although Shar has good intentions and she is an outstanding advocate for women, she is extremely opinionated and is difficult to get along with if your opinions and values differ from hers. She constantly voices her political beliefs and will argue if you disagree. I did learn a lot from this class but it was difficult to get along with Shar.

Shar fell short of establishing expectations for assignments and frequently docked the student's grade for her disorganization. She is very particular about ppt organization. Sometimes it was hard to follow her as she often couldn't make up her mind. This was very frustrating.

Shar is a very interesting lady. This class was engaging and very relaxed. She tried her best to be very fair with due dates and expectations. Course content (films, audio etc.) were very interesting and edgy. Sometimes her tone and choice of words made a handful of students (including me) wonder if she liked us. Still, interesting class!

Very hard but helpful teacher. She takes time to explain things so that you understand (and if you still don't understand, go to her office hours). She prefers to be called Shar. Go to her office hours as much as you can especially for your CVP and Final projects. As long as you attend all of the classes that you can, you'll be fine.

Great teacher. Very striaght to the point. She tells the students what she expects. Very fair to everyone and friendly. Easy to talk to if you have a problem. Uses the Simpsons as a tool of teaching. Effective and funny. Definitly recommend this class to anyone!! Public speeches can be nerveracking (3 of them in all) good for experience

Extremely Hard Grader! She tries to help but she isn't very clear. She makes the projects way too hard, harder than necessary. She picks favorites and is way to pushy with her political beliefs (very liberal) !!!
