Dr. Howard taught me to be cognizant of issues with my writing. But beyond this - she was a very condescending and rude professor. I received quite a few passive aggressive emails and she gave a nearly impossible amount of reading assignments. No positive feedback ever. Hard to find respect and motivation for this class.

She teaches a Harry Potter class at a community college yet she thinks shes teaching at Harvard. She really needs to vibe check herself. Extremely condescending and rude.

Harsh grader and not clear with instructions. Would not take again. If you have her take a different class ASAP

Had her for Critical Issues in Literary Studies. The criticisms that we read were more graduate-level and incredibly in-depth and lengthy. The actual pieces of literature were great, but there was a ton of reading for a writing-intensive course. Lectures are incredibly boring and laptops are not permitted during class. Would not recommend

The class lectures can be a little dry, especially if no one responds, but all in all she tries to make sure everyone is following a long. Papers usually have a short paper length, to cater to people who can say what they mean without many words. Awesome teacher really.

Dr. Howard is sometimes insane about the amount of work she gives. she gives homework like students are only taking her class. She is very unclear about most of her assignments and doesn't give a lot of clarity when you see her about it. She gets the characters in the books we read confused so much that we aren't sure if she actually reads them.

Agh, this class was awful. You read SIX 600 page books. All early British lit which is wretched. The amount of reading you have to do is absurd for anyone who has a job or other work to do. I didn't read any of the books, read sparknotes and did okay. There are pop quizzes and essays. She grades fairly easily, but the class is tedious and dull.

The class was really interesting and was definately one of my favorite classes to attend. But her grading isn't to tough, but I don't think she really grades or reads papers. I got about the same grade for all 4 of my papers in her class. The same goes for all my friends; their grades stayed the same. So do good on the first paper if you want an A.

Dr. Howard is not very difficult. There is a slightly below average amount of work, though she is a bit of a tough grader for papers. I personally found her comments on my paper unhelpful, so make sure your writing is concise and focused.

Dr. Howard is by far the most talented professor in the English Dept. She cares deeply about her students and wants them to reach their individual potential. She is a breath of fresh air amidst an otherwise average department because she challenges students to think for themselves!

The major issues I had with this class is that first of all, it was required and not very interesting, secondly, unless you wrote about what Dr. Howard thought was right, you got a terrible grade, so be prepared to regurgitate her ideas and lastly, the class consisted of the basic read a book and write about it...so basically HS all over again!

Dr. Howard is easy but not so easy as to make the class boring. Though there wasn't too much work required, I still payed attention to class discussions about the readings. There were pop quizzes and 3 tests, but no papers. Most of the class revolved around our interpretations of the readings and occasionally her lectures.

I had her for Lit of Crime and Detection. The stories/books we read were interesting and fun (Sherlock Holmes, Edgar Allan Poe, No. 1 Ladies' Det. Agency...). Quizzes were relatively easy as long as you read. Tests were not too difficult, either. There is only one assigned paper. I'd take another class with her.

Crime- Very nice and helpful. Understands this is an elective course open to everyone, so not a lot of writing is required. Not an easy grader though and you will know how to write well when you leave her classes. Class can get repetive and slightly boring, but still recommended.

she pushed me to excel, complimented me on my work, and was an overall pleasure to have as a teacher. she was very supportive of my going out on a limb with some of my papers, and i appreciated that. i wasn't initially that interested in the subject matter, but the class was enjoyable and doing well in it was an added bonus

I loved Dr. Howard. She is very thorough when teaching her students how to write and I learned a lot from her. Classes are discussion based and you really feel like she is listening to you when you speak. She is such a nice lady and is extremely accessible and helpful. She offers to go over drafts of papers so students can get a good grade.Recommende

she is very unclear and does not accomplish much in class. she assigns a lot of work and does not clearly define her expectations & then gets upset with the class becasue the work was not done the way she expected
