GREAT PROFESSOR!!! So so so so helpful, go to her office hours and she will be more than happy to help you. It's a tough class that takes a lot of work so not going to her office hours would be a huge mistake as she really does help and make it seem very simple when it's just a one on one conversation.

Bayles made really tough material seem possible and definitely inspired me a lot. She's a really understanding and reasonable person and goes out of her way for her students. She's also just an adorable person! It's not an easy A by any means but if you put in the work you'll be fine.

This is the toughest class I've taken so far as a ChemE, which is expected. However, all-in-all I think the exams are fair, although can be very tricky. Definitely do the practice exams she gives you and don't procrastinate on the homework!! There is only one assignment a week, so it is easy to put it off, but DON'T! Bayles is helpful and stylish.

Dr. Bayles is encouraging and patient. She's clear and lays out specific expectations. She has solidified my desire to pursue chemical engineering, and I find her to personally be a role model,

I can't say enough about how amazing Dr. Bayles is. Yes, her class is incredibly tough. It's CHEMICAL ENGINEERING! However, she always lays out exactly what you need to know, provides you with study guides, and grades incredibly fairly. Lightning fast at answering emails. I've never met a professor who cares about their students more than her!

Class had no structure. Wasted class time rambling. Claims to give helpful hintS for exams/quizzes but were useless. did not teach how to use CAD, yet had a quiz on it. couldnt ask TA for help b/c they were all ChemE's who had no experience w/ CAD. Grading was biased. Seemed to favor certain students. She was a mediocre professor to say the least.

Her tests are very challenging however they help prepare you for future courses in chemical engineering. The tests were open book and final average grade curved to a B- but doesn't pass people with below 60 percent test average which is fair. She is very nice and very easy to go to for help she is so nice in person. VERY QUICK AT ANSWERING EMAILS

Very hard class. This class is meant to weave out all the people who aren't smart enough for Chemical Engineering. Her exams are insanely hard. She curves 10% but it doesn't help much. If you do the hw, visit TA's hours and go through the practice exams, you have a decent shot of an A.

This class is the hardest class I have ever encountered. I'm currently a Chemical Engineer major at UMBC and I really want to change my major. This woman knows that this class is hard without any tricks but she insists on giving tricky exams. She claims that she wants you to pass but she gives NO extra credit. Do not take this class at this school!

I failed every quiz and exam in lecture (and by failed, I mean like 40% averages) and still got an A. The project is the biggest part. It's not graded on if it works, but on how you designed it. But really, if you fail every exam, don't get discouraged, because you'll most likely still pass. Also, it's better if she knows who you are.

Dr. Bayles is the most helpful teacher at UMBC. Very approachable and friendly. Her exams are not too easy but she curves very generously. She's great.

I transferred out of UMBC because of her (among a large calaboration of rip-off your money teachers). I'm in college park now and I am fascinated and well engaged in my education as well as becoming a great engineer. She was disorganized, awful and discouraging through and through. She sucks, the school sucks, get out while you still can TRUST ME.

She is an awful teacher. She assumes you already know all prior material and that she is just reviewing it with you. The books used for class are the WORST! SO many errors and misdirection in the books. BTW, did no homeworks, failed every test, C in the class because of the project and grading curve. Simple to pass.

Assumes you already know physics. Teaches material in class and then gives you HW that is insanely hard to complete. Gives pop quizzes so class is mandatory.

Homework takes a long time (do not procrastinate!), exams are tricky. Bio questions are hell, but count for less points. Dr. Bayles is extremely nice and helpful (go to her office hours frequently). If you focus on the concept, not on the process, then you'll be fine. If you're lazy, you will fail. If you want engineering to be easy, go to CP.

I'm officially transferring to college park doing bioengineering because of her. She made Chem-e the most miserable thing I have ever studied. 100% on all homework up until the test and then I got a 29% on the test. Avoid if you can, but then again Chem-e is boring as hell no matter who you have. If you want to do medecine go bioengineering.
