WORST professor ever. writes nothing down on the board. notes are all on you. if you are a visual learner I DO NOT recommend this class. all grades are based on 3 Exams and appearance.

This guy knows his stuff through and through, but you have to listen and take good notes; I'd recommend recording the class if you can. He literally lectures with his eyes closed sometimes because he knows the material so well that he doesn't need his own notes. He keeps a good pace and grades you fairly, but you have to study for it. He's caring.

Thomas Hughes is the worst professor I have ever had. Tests, quizzes, and note guides I filled with dozens of typos. Lectures are filled with irrelevant information. Tests have information that is neither in the book or lecture. If there is any chance that an emergency will come up in your life dont take this class, he will punish you.

If you can learn by lecture this is the class for you! No need for the book. Ended up recording his lectures and playing them on repeat. Did pass with a 3.0 but it took a lot of extra studying on my part.

Really advise you dont take this class. There are 4 tests and thats your grade. That are ridiculously hard and this is coming from a good student. He asks the class questions about things we havent learned yet, and makes us feel dumb for not knowing. You get 2 absences per semester and he takes points off your tests after that. Not worth it

On your life DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HUGHES. The whole class is lectures which I dont have a problem with but he gives bad lectures. You dont know what to take notes on. His tests are awful. He is rude, nothing is accessible online, he puts people on the spot. I have nothing good to say. 4 tests. I have 3 weeks left so we will see if I pass.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I repeat, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I've never struggled with history until this class. I never missed a class, took notes and paid attention. One of the hardest classes I've taken so far. He's so unapproachable, his tests are extremely hard, a VERY hard grader and I barely passed his class. Avoid this class while you can.

Tom is an amazing lecturer. Simple as that. Make sure to not only show up to class, but show up on time. He will make it awkward if you come in late. Do not play on your phone in class. And don't test him. That will make the class not very fun for yourself. Other than that, I found his class awesome. He really knows his stuff. Bluebooks are a must!

Don't let the lecture heavy tag scare you off! Mr. Hughes does his best to make sure his lectures are interesting, and even adds his own personal stories into them. He knows what he's talking about, and will let you use your phone to record the lectures if you ask him! I personally loved him, and once I got to know him better, he was great!

If you dont like lectures or you're incapable of silencing your phone and putting it away for an hour, steer clear. he's a grumpy old dude who struggles to walk and cant see. refuses to use technology. doesnt use textbooks. gives out lecture outlines (ie whats on the next test). show up, sit quietly, take notes, and you'll pass.

Avoid missing as much class as you can. He does not have moodle for his classes, all he does is lecture so you need to be there to take notes, otherwise you will miss a lot of content in just one class which will hurt you for the tests. He wants you to do good and even gives one super easy 130 point map quiz to help bring your grade up.

If you have a hard time staying focused in class then don't take one with him! Anything that comes out of his mouth could be on the exam and that's all he tells you.

DONT BUY THE BOOK, YOU DONT NEED IT! He is very enthusiastic about history, he makes it interesting. If you take detailed notes, study hard, and pay attention, you will pass. He is willing to help. My advice is to outline the lecture notes after class every day. This is what helped me learn the material and get good grades on the exams.

I was in his class for an hour and that was all it took for me to HAPPILY go through the trouble of dropping his class and finding a different one that made me go an whole extra day of school. My last comment was deleted and I am so sorry to anyone I didn't save in time...

The guy knows his History. Don't buy a textbook, he never used one once, and I took 3 different courses of his. He lectures 95% of the time, so as long as you can take good notes, or use a recorder if you aren't a fast note taker, you'll do just fine.

He doesn't use the book, his lectures are incredibly dragging and boring. He expects us to know everything that he knows (if not more) and gets extremely angry if we don't have an answer that he likes. Gets very angry if you are a minute late to class. Short fused guy that HATES technology. Seems to me he isn't cut out to be a professor.

For the entire hour and twenty minutes of class he just lectures. There will never be a time when he will say " this will be on the exam" he just expects you to memorize all of it in the hour and twenty minutes. Horrible teaching style, horrible teacher... I had to drop the class and there has been at least 7-8 students who have also done so.

Don't bother buying the book. 99% of what you need to know is given through lectures. If you like history, and can take notes, you'll do fine.

Horrible professor. He is no help to students whatsoever. You can tell he loves history, but not students. I love US history, but after this class, he makes me never want to take another history class again. Lectures are long and tedious and he never uses the book so don't waste your money.
