Comment:
Prof. Russell is a very intriguing human being. His voice is soothing, he does his best to help you out and has a vast knowledge of specific engineering applications in his head. As for the course, nonferrous was ok, the material learned is very useful but there isn't really a good way to test people on it (so tests suck). Will curve as needed

I hate this class. Everything is based off a powerpoint that the professor did not even make. The professor also makes it more difficult when he can never explain anything clearly and expects you to have a bunch of background information on physics and programming.

I will attempt to describe Allan Russell in the ancient Haiku form Beautiful crystals Shown like over priced gems Allan makes better Fine as Martensite Reverse the lever Cronk Why do some miss that? They didn't ask me When it was made, they should have I do it better More in shape than you Deal with it, he has biceps Yes, he is batman

Great professor, favorite class of my undergraduate career. Likes extreme sports and is pretty bad ass. Great at communicating the intensely beautiful engineering of things like kevlar and nuclear missiles. Passes around samples of most materials we discussed. Overall, tests kicked my ass but I learned a lot. Homework and presentations saved me.

Comment:
His class is very interesting, and he knows everything in the periodic table. However, the homework is somehow not related to the lecture note that much, and the exam is extremely hard. It would be very helpful if he can explain the dislocation motion more since the dislocation interaction is hard to visualize.

Nonferrous. It's his class with his book, so he knows everything incredibly well. He goes through the homework 3 hours before it's due, so as long as you've attempted it before then, you'll be able to get 90+. His tests can be difficult, but they tend to be very practical. Great, intelligent man to talk with, and has the most soothing voice.

Very clear and coherent, excellent knowledge of the material. Possible to do well on tests just with his lecture notes. Highly recommend talking to him after class about the subject of the day in more detail. Very fair, entertaining and quality handwriting on the board.

The only thing more beutiful than Alan Russell is Alan Russell's handwriting. Alan Russell knows everything, or if he doesn't know it he he knows that too.

F08 - Excellent prof, one of the best I've had. Good voice, easy to listen to, interesting lectures. Expects you to know your stuff, so study for exams, put in the effort. Often breaks up lecture with group/partner problems in class.

Easily my favorite teacher this semester and in my college career. Tests are difficult but you get 4 pages of cheat sheet and generally covers the most important material. Make sure you attend class, his lectures are usually very interesting and very informative!

A fantastic professor who knows his materials (pun intended) forwards and backwards and can actually help you to learn it. Very understanding, very helpful with questions on homework. Incredibly fair in terms of grading. If you think you got an unfair grade and can justify why, just talk to him and odds are he will give you points back. woot.

He made class a pleasure to attend, and made a difficult subject crystal clear. He was incredibly helpful and willing to give students any personal guidance necessary. He was even willing to work with students and give them the benefit of the doubt on late assignments, projects, etc. Fantastic professor! I wish he taught mroe classes.

Tests require a lot of studying but he allows students to bring a generous amount of notes (no photocopies though) Has a great voice for telling the many materials related stories he knows - also brings a lot of examples to class
