I don't understand all of the negative comments out there about Avedon. I guess if you're not real enthusiastic about art, you probably should take another professor. However, I think Avedon does a great job helping out students who show interest in wanting to learn, and his Drawing III class has a very good set up to it in terms of what we learned

Possibly one of the rudest professors I have ever had to deal with.He is always making snide comments and putting down the students. For critiques he is just slamming on the students who are struggling and not being helpful to anyone. If you ask for help he will give it, but he doesnt care about the student at all. never showd us his work or tecniq

Horrible. I took the class because it was a requirement, and I'm not at all artistic. He was rude, and put everything I did down, and said I was "wrong". I tried, got an A but only after pretending I cared, asking for assistance and doing whatever it was he wanted from me. I ended up hating all my work, bc it was his style & work - not mine. LAME.

It took me 4 classes with Barry to understand him. He can be very vague sometimes but you need to reach out for him. He will NOT offer help unless you ask. Although Barry's instruction seems archaic, he is part of a well-rounded education because he brings rigidity and a classic style. I recommend his classes, just be sure to ask his opinion.

Mediocre art prof. Untalented, completely lacking a sense of humour, and won't hesitate to embarrass students during critiques. Also grades based on his personal tastes. Luckily I'm a good drawer, so I did fine, but lots of people didnt.

I've heard stories about terrible professors, but I never actually experienced one until Avedon. He is extremely rude, not only in private but will put down student's work in front of the whole class. Tells you drawings are great and then grades you terrible. Treats students like children. Is very snippity and uptight. Avoid at all costs

Avedon is not only the worst Professor I've ever had, buty all together the worst teacher. It didn't seem like he had any love for teaching, and had no patient for the students.My advice is find someone better.

i thought barry was awesome! he gave good critques, let us use more creativity than had been offered by other teachers and inspired me to go on to art school in chicago. he also came to see a play i worked on.. which is cool. i asked a lot of questions about schools, the medium, etc and he always helped out a lot. and some of the pieces from that class have been used in 3 art shows. i don't know why there are all of these negative comments. i am very glad to have had him as a teacher.

Had various experiences with this professor. Had him for an advanced class which went well, although I highly caution all aspiring artists, do NOT, I repeat do NOT take Avedon for Drawing 2 if you do not have experience. You will feel lost and useless.
