Carol is amazing! To be honest if you're going to sit in class on your phone the whole time and want an easy A, don't take this class. She made me so interested in Political science and helped me become a better student. The others rating her terrible because of her scrutinizing them is probably correct but she doesn't deal with racism or ignorance

Comment:

Prof Jenkins pushes her personal agenda on students. She has accused me of being racist and hating the entire class because of my differing political views and opinions. Most of her lectures are made to divide the class and put down anyone who opposes her thought. She does not encourage proper class discussion. She has called my beliefs BS.

Not sure how she has a high rating on this website. Worst professor I've ever had. Verbally abusive towards students, expects you to have a broad knowledge of every historical event, ever. Feedback on absurdly long papers is inappropriate and in no way no constructive. Prepare to have no political beliefs of your own to share. Awful. DO NOT TAKE.

Carol is great! She made a subject I have zero interest in actually exciting and interesting. She is tough, but fair. She creates an amazing class atmosphere that you do need to attend, or you will have no chance at passing. But if you do attend and pay attention in her class, you will do great, and enjoy it at the same time. I would take her again

Really easy, and never gives tests, but can go off on long-winded tangents during lectures. Also a highly dogmatic ultra-liberal (and I'm saying this as a solid liberal myself). Never gave any tests during the semester; just a group presentation and a couple of papers. Oh, and don't bother reading the Takaki book except when quoting for the papers.

Professor Jenkins is probably one of best Professors I have ever had. The class was very involved and I think that everyone learned a great deal about America and racial identities from this course. Register for ANY of Prof. Jenkins courses! She is very passionate about her subject and WILL help you a great deal if you are confused about anything.

Take a moment to actually read the syllabus, then carve out time to read the textbook regularly. You'll also want to keep up with related current events. And for crying out loud, know who represents you in various levels of government. Do that and participate in class. She's happier when there is open dialog and it's from more than just 3 people.

Absolutely fantastic. Hands down the best professor I've had at Temple. She is passionate about political science and government, and extremely knowledgeable. Helpful, accommodating and clear with students. You have to work to get an A but it is worth it. If you take your education seriously, you won't regret taking CJ.

She's great. Do what it says to do on syllabus and you'll get an A. Just do your readings and ask if you don't understand, she'll clear it up. She is opinionated, but isn't everyone? Best teacher I've had at Temple, and I've learned a lot from her. If you're willing to read and participate, take her for History and Significance of Race in America.

Comment:

Professor Jenkins can be difficult- depending on what kind of student you are. You definitely have to read a lot and your are expected to write incredibly long papers. By the third class, we turned in a 10 page paper on some pretty heavy reading. We also had a 15-pager. Overall, she is VERY intelligent and helpful, but the workload is intense.

She is very opinionated and passionate in what she believes in, like most PoliSci profs, but leaves most biases out of classroom. If you write a bad paper she'll tell yo u what to fix and if you you write good paper she'll let you know too. If someone can't back an opinion w/ facts she'll tell them they're wrong. Overall an excellent professor.

I had a great time in this class. She was extremely informative and passionate about what she was doing, one of my best teachers at temple so far. Though she doesn't hide the fact that she is liberal, I don't think she'd ever let someone's own political views get in the way of her grading.

Nice. The assignments sure requires u to do some readings, but she loves to see ur own view on what u r doing. Thats being said, I learnt a lot from this class and I didnt expect that it'll be one of the best class i've taken so far (and i'm not a polsci major). She do accept late submission tho. But make sure ur report were good and well done.

Jenkins is extremely passionate about her teaching, but she was horrible. She refuses to listen to anyone's opinions, save for those people who agree with her completely. I couldn't care less about her politics, but I heard about them every single class. Write your papers like you're the biggest liberal on the planet and you'll get an A.

I agree, Avoid if possible! Shes very intelligent but very opinionated. She has her days where shes nice, but overall she's not a friendly person. Papers are way too long with the information given. If you don't agree with her personal opinions she dislikes you...or seems to at least. I wouldn't recommend her.

best class I've taken so far...I don't think I've ever had a better teacher. Just participate and do your work. She doesnt try to screw you over with the tests and if you blow it on your papers she'll let you rewrite them.
