Comment:

This class brought up some interesting perspectives, but was taught very poorly. Overwhelming amount of handouts. Don't know what to expect on exams with random fill-ins - all very difficult. And I'm sorry, but his personality came off to me as grumpy. But take the class if you enjoy musicals, because that's the majority of the content.

I would never ever EVER recommend him as a professor for anything. He is a very sweet old man but cannot follow a pattern in his lectures for the life of him. He rambles on and on and expects you to pick up the random small details and remember them for the tests. PLEASE do not take him

I had him for Existentialism. If I could give every student at JCU one piece of advice it would be DO NOT TAKE HIM. All he does is tell stories and he gives us test on things we never talked about. No one in my class got above a C. Nice man but too old to still be teaching.

Father Bukala is incredibly sweet and tells amazing stories. Unfortunately, his stories do not help you pass his extremely vague quizzes and exams. Difficult class to get a decent grade in, but possibly worth meeting Father Bukala.

Bukala is a great guy and one you'd like to have a beer with, but sometimes he can ramble on and miss some major points. Interesting class but most of the time time you sit and shoot the**** with the others. 3 papers the whole year, basically non on research. Easy A if you pay attention and connect the ideas. Attending class is absolutely mandator

Nice man, but really really needs to retire. Maybe one of the worst classes I've ever taken in my life and I actually liked the texts- Bukala just doesn't discuss the material; just musicals and Jesus. Seriously. I don't think anyone got an A and if they did, it was only because they talked to him about god at mass.

If you enjoy listening to a priest sing songs from musicals that you have never before heard in your life this class if for you. If you like taking tests with fill in the blank answers that are not in the reading this class is for you. If you like sitting through the most boring lecture you could imagine then I would highly reccomend this class.

The best thing about his course: no real final. Instead, I had to write a 1 page, double spaced, bolded essay explaining what I learned in his class. Piece of cake. The exams were average. If you pay attention in class you won't have any problems. Recommended.

Worst teacher I have had... i had some of the top grades in the class and went everyday and ended up with a B... he did not make any sense and his tests were irrelevant to anything you learned. completely unfair teacher u will not get the grade u deserve so do not even bother... h should just retire

Rambles on about nothing the whole class. He literally never talks about Philosophy just his stupid musicals. COMPLETELY FULL OF HIMSELF. He will tell you 200 times that he has a doctorate from Boston College. A Jesuit Scholar that is losing his edge teaching. A complete B'ser. If you take this class just CHEAT he deserves it for not teaching

Tests are not on the material given in class. They are very difficult, more than they should be for a 200 level class. On the first and second tests, there were 0 As. There were a total of about 7 bs on both tests (in two sections). Tries not to preach, but ends up preaching. Talks about musicals the entire class. Nice guy though, gives out candy.

I took his existentialism and phenomenology class. The lectures were mostly boring. He gave a ton of handouts. Tests were near impossible. You had to know little details like the guy's wife's name or when he died and stupid little things like that. Paper was easy, but he grades hard. Don't take this class unless you absolutely have to.

Nice but horrible teacher. Easy class if you're a textbook Christian. In his classroom, God is a fact and it shows in how he grades essays. I took him my first semester and he made me want to leave the school. Dropped his class and took PL 101 with Ortega and loved it. He told me I was close-minded and didn't belong in college-he's a PRIEST.

once 'yelled at' me for taking notes. makes assumptions about other's motives, difficulty with teaching his-religion vs philosophy, self-righteous, mentioned his height, his futon, or the fact that he has seen Les Mis once each lecture.

Father Bukala is a really nice guy but his lectures do not reflect the tests given. You have to work really hard to do well in his class. He gives candy everyday though!
