Comment:
Show interest and read content before lectures. Throw him a bone during discussions. If you study thoroughly, involve yourself in the content (use appropriate references for the term paper) you'll do fine. Go talk to him about your term paper or the class in general at least once during the semester. He's a really knowledgable guy.

Interesting topics, definitely not a easy class. If you put effort into the course it will be rewarding. Some of the readings were written in a weird way and his slide shows tend to hurt your eyes. other than that if you're looking for a challenging class I would suggest it.

Very knowledgeable. Tried to raise our interest and understanding on varied topics. Was not overly critical of (my) clear ignorance and misguided ideas. Encouraged me to lead myself to the so-called 'truth'. I took his classes at undergrad and grad levels.

Dr. Southcott is a laid back and down to earth professor. His lectures are easy to follow and interesting if you have completed the suggested readings. If you study his posted slides from the flash website you are gauranteed a good mark on his exams. Overall, a solid prof .. hopefully I will get the chance to take more of his courses

He flips through power point a lot, but often throws in interesting pic and tidbits from his experience, loved this class

Reading past comments on this person does not surprise me. Between reading his newspaper, showing up late for class, acting like God and kissing up to his superiors, this person should not be teaching at a university period. Beyond being unhelpful and unclear in his assignments, his negative attitude wishes you had attended different class.

He seemed like he was going to be a good prof, but then he came late to a bunch of classes and was unhelpful when asked for assistance on assignments. All he does is flip through powerpoint presentations and you take copius amounts of useless notes.

He's not the worst socio prof, but not the best either. He only rolls his eyes during sociology presentations that have nothing to do with sociology.

worst prof in sociology. Unclear, favors all the idiots or people with money. Does not like his job, b/c if he did he would be on time, and get assignments back before the end of the year. He also rolls his eyes during presentations!

excellent french manners and needs to take his role and responsabilities as a teacher more seriously, ie. it would be nice if he showed up for class on time once and a while especially when students are presenting

Comment:
Highly intelligent and no less articulate--in both English and French. He has travelled extensively and makes no apologies for having come from the prosperous side of the tracks. His aristocratic countenance can easily be mistaken for arrogance though.
