The Art Experience - it's basically an overview of art history and art technique/information. I don't think you need an art background to be interested because he makes it quite thought-provoking and informative. He calls on students often. Only 3 essays & a final. He's a hard grader, but if you follow his instruction and come prepared you're fine

Comment:

The typical artist - can come off as arrogant, but he is a great guy. He makes his lectures very interesting. I enjoyed this class even though it was more work than I expected. Tests are in the form of assignments in your sketchbook along with an essay that requires lots of preparation before hand. Don't procrastinate, and you will do fine.

Great guy. I signed up for this class thinking I would be painting every morning, sadly I was wrong. However I actually really enjoyed my time in this class. I think he gets a bad wrap but he's a really good teacher and understands that this is only a gened and that most people don't want to be there. Very witty and helpful. Take him.

I wasn't even supposed to take the art experience class, but I am so thankful I did. He is super witty and intelligent. He teaches this particular class based off of powerpoint, but it is very interesting. Would take again!

Dr. Ribar was amazing. I was so nervous about this class because I can't draw or paint or anything like that. He saw that I was trying though and because of that I got a good grade anyway. He's a really great teacher.

Show up, on time and be prepared to work. Even if you aren't the greatest artist, if he sees that you are legitimately trying and improving, he will give you a good grade. He is tough, but your portfolio will improve by leaps and bounds. He doesn't sugar coat his critiques, but if you can't handle it, you shouldn't be an artist.

I can be fairly critical of my art teachers, so I mean it when I say David Ribar was definitely the best instructor I've had so far. He pushed me more than the others and actually taught me a few things along the way. Going in, I felt like I had reached a point where I couldn't learn anything new from instructors. Great guy. He def. makes fun some people, but only when they say incredibly dumb things. I just stayed relatively silent, sat back, and enjoyed the show. He's really helpful, interesting, & knowledgeable. I took him for art experience, and tests were the only real work, but yeah, you have to study for them. He reminds me of John Malkovich haha

I did not particularly enjoy this class (Art Experience). I was never clear on what he was trying to teach. The tests are rather long and mostly essay, but not difficult. This class was not interesting at all, but I did end up with an A.

Though I hated figure drawing and thought Ribar was a jerk at first he is one of my most favorite profs. now! Looking back I had a bad attitude and he brought out the best in me and expected my best efforts. I improved immensely because of him!
