Bad professor...He's hard, but is also just really bad at teaching. I would not recommend taking any class from him.

Comment:
Most of the ratings for him are way off base. Lohr is funny and his tests are easy (more so than Francisco anyway). His notes are a bit old school, but if you take real good in class notes (might need recorder) you are set. He provided his old tests (no answers), but they aren't needed to succeed. I received an A in the class mostly because of my performance in his half of the class.

Dr. Lohr's section saved my grade. He teaches you how things work and makes you memorize specific mechanisms, but since when was biology/chemistry not a ton of memorizing? Ever taken A&P?? BCH is a lot to remember so don't wait to study the night before. Fact is, you learn everything you need to know in class unlike Dr. Francisco.

Just be glad Professor Lohr is retiring. He's very old fashioned and taught from overheads which could be bought. There is a lot of ambiguity in his lecture material and exam. He was never helpful to me and spoke down to many students as though we were incapable of handling the material. I never thought I'd despise a professor as much as I do him.

An overall really bad teacher. His antiquated teaching methods are not conducive to learning anything, nor are his test formats. Learning the material will get you nowhere here- key is memorization. If you are looking to learn nothing in biochemistry, he is the perfect professor.

Comment:
Anybody who has anything positive to say about Dr. Lohr is an unfortunate soul. Anybody who thought Francisco was a poor teacher doesn't belong in Biochem, and anybody who felt Lohr was a good professor also doesn't belong in biochem. His method of testing students is not conducive to learning the material whatsoever.

As a whole, Lohr is not too bad. He does have a pompous college professor attitude about him but is a good teacher. He is hard to talk to, especially outside of class. Felt his tests were hard but fair, as they tested us word-for-word on what he said. GO TO LECTURE! That is my best advice because he hates the book. Good Luck!

He is not TERRIBLE, but he is not great either.... Not really a nice guy, i always felt aqward talking to him. He notes are old and written on which suck and are hard to follow... it would have been easier if he taught by the book so you have a reference instead of googling everything....

Great prof! Very clear in explaining new concepts; holds students' interest. Handout notes were awesome; even used it for other graduate-level classes later. Not very patient outside the classroom so it's best if you attend class and try to 'get it' in class.

I have no clue who these people are talking about either. Dr. Lohr is a great professor. He's very interested in his field and shows a lot of enthusiasm in class. Our class average on his exams was about 10+ points higher than Dr. Fransisco's. It's important that you go to class every day and take good notes because he doesn't teach from the book.

What are you guys talking about? Lohr is a great prof!! He's really nice, he repeats everything twice and tells you when something is going to be on the test or not, and repeats it if it will be. He teaches the material at an in-depth level that really pushes you to understand all of biochem. I understand why bad students would hate him.

Comment:
The majority of the class was each student making presentations on scientific journal articles that were basically in another language. He then sits there and tells you how horrible you did and makes you feel stupid. DO NOT take this class if you haven't had BCH 467 (lab) its impossible since he refers to lab techniques in every lecture.

Why are the other comments are so bad. Lohr is one of the best lecture professor.Every topic is repeated 2x.The exams are based fromlecture.Nothing is tricky!Take good notes, bring a recording device,&listen to the tape to fill in the gap of your notes. His slides are hard to read, but he explains it all in class.Ask him ?'s after class. He won't bite.

Probably the worst professor in the chemistry department. He obviously does not care about teaching. The guy is too lazy to come up with new slides and handouts. Too bad he has to teach the same class with a great professor(Francisco).

He should not be teaching....lets just keep it at that. I seriously feel bad if you have to take a course with him. I would drop and get a professor that actually cares about the students learning.

He treats his students very poorly. I agree with previous comments and recommend that you stay away from him. He is a bad apple. Fortunately, he does not represent the vast majority of science professors.

He is very rude and can get defensive with his students. He is not good with people. He has a tendency to make students feel very small when they ask questions. If you stay away from him and can get a hold of his old exams you will do fine in the course.

A mixed bag. If you take time after class with clearly worded questions, he will help you- however, his test questions are very badly worded, and rumors of negative scores persist- it's possible to get half a 4 pt question correct and LOSE a point. In lecture, does not relate very well to students.
