I absolutely do not recommend him. His tests are insanely hard and only conceptual. He also doesn't use blackboard so you can't look at your grade in his class going into the tests or the final. If you want a better chance at getting a good grade, 100% take MAT 275 with another professor. I don't have enough bad things to say. NEVER TAKE HIM.

He is a challenging professor in the fact that he doesn't teach the math the way a math teacher normally teaches. Instead of doing examples and making sure you understand technique he focuses on conceptual whether or not you know what you're actually calculating. His first test will catch you off guard but curve galore.

He's really cool. He's got an accent but it's not bad. He grades on a curve and his practice tests are a lot like the actual. He is a really good teacher, really smart and doesn't expect you to bring all your calc 2 knowledge and solve dumb integrals.

Comment:
As a lecturer he's pretty average: Plenty of proofs, understandable, does some problems on the chalkboard, etc. But while his exams are open note and curved, they're pretty conceptual and proof based. (ABCD'd, so if you mess up early on, you'll lose massive points). He's a great guy and with some funny moments, but he tends to grade harshly. Study.

He's an extremely good professor who cares whether his students pass. If you put the effort into the class, he'll put effort into you. He will help students if they go to his office hours. Yeah, the class is fairly difficult but if you pay attention and ask for help when you need it, you should have no trouble passing.

Not sure where all the good feedback is from. Our class had no bell curve, either you understood him or you didn't and that was reflected on the tests. Usual test average was 50-60% Grades very harshly and expects you to know what he is looking for on the test without specifically asking for it. Would not take this instructor ever again.

He cares about his students and their success, but he won't babysit you. He is forgiving of screw ups when he knows the student is usually on it. Give great advice and mentoring.

I LOVE this teacher! He has high standards and will make you work for it. No standard grading rubric for this class, but takes into account the effort you put into presentations and write-ups.

He has high standards, but he's approachable when you don't understand something, and he will work through the tricky material with you. Awesome mentor! His research is very inspirational to me. He wants students to do well, but he won't babysit you, so you have to put in the work and effort.

Dieter is a very helpful, kind professor. He'll change the due date for the homework if someone asks him. He is very helpful during office hours and really wants you to learn the material. His tests are pretty difficult, but he curves heavily. I got a 57 on the first exam, which was curved to a B-.

He focuses on the abstract part of the course. His exams are open book and contain 5 to 7 free response questions. You might see one question or two for the first time on the exam day. The passing grade is 50.

Dr. Armbruster is a really nice guy, many students find his teaching hard to follow, but I really enjoyed it! The tests were somewhat simple and graded on a really nice curve! He genuinely loves math and knows his students names, definitely recommend visiting with him during office hours at least once or twice if you need clarification.

Armbruster is a very hard teacher. He doesnt care about the math so much as the concept so his lessons get a little abstract and hard. very helpful in his office hours and is willing to answer questions

Armbruster is a difficult professor with a thick accent; aside from this he is very knowledgeable. Hard exams, usually 4-5 questions, open book and open note. cumulative final. matlab was a significant portion of the final grade, which was nice. not a terribly difficult class, but does require a fair amount of effort. cheers to 350 chars my friends

While I believe that this professor is knowledgable on the subject matter, he does not convey it clearly to undergraduate students, should only teach grad students. Difficult to follow, lectures do not prepare you for the homework/tests. First exam class average was 50%. Does not respond to emails, homework not assigned on a schedule, unpredictable

This is not a professor you would want to come into contact with. He picks the worst text and the homework is tedious and does not enforce learning goals. You have to teach yourself the entire class.

This class is an example of why the teaching of mathematics should be revolutionized. Doesn't create the type of environment where students want to ask questions, it is easy to tune out in lecture, and there is not enough practice of the material (math is a language!). If you're timid, don't take this professor.
