Dr. Roush was the best professor I had while at U.N.A. for six years. I learned more from him than any other professor.

I had Dr. Roush for both microbiology and immunology. While I did learn a lot, it felt like most of it was self taught. He was an interesting lecturer, but most of the time it seemed he talked about things that didnt end up being on the test. Labs were a nightmare. Lab quizzes, just insanely picky grading.

This was one of the hardest courses I've ever taken. It is so lecture heavy that it's difficult to know exactly what he will use on the test. In lab, he was very particular about how you complete the reports. He is an extremely tough grader but is willing to help during office hours. Take any extra credit or other help he offers. You will need it.

Showed up every class. Always took notes. Studied like crazy. Im an A student. Hated this man. Hates this class. Awful lecturer. Picks on his students has a hateful attitude. Would never willingly take him again

This class is NOT easy, however it's not impossible. The lab was the hardest part for me, he grades very particularly. Lab quizzes are every week, kinda difficult but not too bad if you study. The tests were FULL of information, so study as you learn. Dr. Roush is very helpful if you go to office hours. If you aren't dedicated, don't take him.

I'll start of with this: if you can get transient request approval, do it. Lectures always run over. No powerpoints, he uses transparencies & a projector. Half of the information was put on canvas & not lectured. Only 3 tests, all within the last 2 months. Told us the final was comprehensive & it wasn't. Did offer extra credit, though.

Hard class. The lab quizzes and reports are a huge part of the grade. The tests are really hard so make sure you start to study way ahead of time. If you need help with anything he is happy to help you.

Challenging class. There is a decent amount of memorization. Labs are a major chunk of the grade. Do not procrastinate, talk to him if you need help, and try to be there every day. He didn't use PowerPoint when I took the class and that was really great at relearning note taking.

I loved Dr. Roush; he was one of the most knowledgeable professors I have ever had! My love for micro grew! However, his tests and the way he grades were tough. You need to put a lot of time into this class or you will fail. Micro is not a class for slackers. I truly enjoyed his class besides the tests lol. Warning: class will run over by 5 mins.

I loved Roush! Saying that, though, his tests were insane and his grading was unfair... I love microbiology and loved his class, but his tests made me want to gouge my eyes out. BE PREPARE TO STUDY! You must put the time and effort into this class to pass. Good luck to anyone who takes micro with Roush. Oh and lecture runs over by 5-8 mins usually.

This was one of the most stressful classes I have ever taken at UNA. Lab quiz almost each week. Roush runs over by at least five minutes every lecture. I read the "summary" at the end of some of the chapters that he didn't have time to cover. Do not procrastinate on the packets. Tests are not evenly spaced out. Take a light load.

Pros- Roush knows his stuff and is more than willing to explain or help if you ask Cons- very chatty man (tells stories; redundant, but this might be good for others), class always let out late; material-heavy tl;dr- If you like microbiology and can memorize packets of information, you'll be fine.

Ive had every answer right on a lab reports but still minus 10-20 points because it isn't detailed enough. Most of the quizzes are short answers. Part of the test is short answer too along with matching, true/false, and multiple choice. take somewhere else.

Extremely difficult, grading arbitrary, test questions frequently irrelevant (you will have to hang on every word he says in lecture). Good luck.

Such a great teacher! He is excellent at presenting material in a way that it is easy to understand. This course does cover a lot of material, but not nearly as much as some other Bio courses. Read your textbook & pay attention in lecture. If you don't understand, tell him. He loves to help! Ignore all the horror stories, stay positive, & study!

This class is challenging, but not as difficult as it is made out to be. We had 2 tests and the final. All tests cover A TON of material, so be prepared to spend endless hours studying. Pay attention during class, take good notes, and you'll survive.

If you are expecting to take your first test 2 months into the class, then this is the class for you. Way too much information your expected to learn. He knows his stuff but he makes things harder than they need to be. I'd recommend taking light courses with this course. Very time consuming.

Take it somewhere else. The subject isn't as hard as he makes it out to be. He's a smart man, but he makes his class entirely too hard.
