Totally useless. Spends most of his time ranting about irrelevant crap. Likes to be contrary just for the sake of it. Has a massive superiority complex about himself, and is rude and disrespectful to everyone. Always difficult to know what he expects. I'm a grad student, and he may be the worst prof I've ever had for anything.

Comment:
The rudest professor I've ever met. He has absolutely no respect for his students - arrogant attitude, consistently late 5-10 min. with no apology, scoffs at ideas and comments he doesn't agree with, acts bored all the time, mocks students. He actually made fun of a girl's weight on a regular basis. Still, easy to get a good grade (the TAs marked).

He's usually late for cl****, doesn't allow laptops for some reason. The TA was better at explaining things than him but he's okay. Midterms are HARD... Finals was okay. The Group project helped alot in my mark.

Eric is a little inconsistent, and can be intimidating as hell.he has a good sense of humor as far as professors go, but you might find yourself the butt of the joke in front of 250 other students.once you get a read on him, decode a pattern or something, the class becomes very interesting and a good starting block for potential LING and ENG majors

He knows his stuff and he plays off being a really big **** and makes it seem... charming or at least funny. But to some people that charm gets old really quick. Eric always provided really good lectures if you're into linguistics. Grading is really tough, he forces you to think, not just regurgitate info. Group projects can boost your mark.

Should not be teaching a 100 level course! Nobody could be expected to understand unless they had taken a previous LING course. The readings were ridiculous and the tutorials were useless. Everything is explained clearly in LING 101, so skip directly to that - no prerequisite.

He is very knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about...however, it is very difficult to follow along in his lectures and the midterms were kind of hard. There isn't much work to do so that's the plus side, just a lot of confusing readings..

As with any course, you should study your ass off, and if your mark reflects your effort, then it's a fair course. I thought that he was unorganized and his explanations are complicated, but he was helpful, and the content was interesting, and you can get a pretty good mark if you just study. So, I rate this professor an A-. !!GO ERIC GO!!

This man is useless. As an entry level course, linguistics is a joke. There is no introduction and explanation; students are expected to evaluate professional papers without any basic linguistics training, and the lectures are related only by the most tenuous threads to anything resembling linguistics as traditionally conceived. Waste of time.

Sure, he's not Mr. Smiley, but this course is good for a quick A. Basically this guy's structured the course so that anybody who attends and sort of pays attention gets an A-. The class average this year was something stupid, but there was NO SCALING. Awesome.

Wow, Tyler's getting props...I agree too. Uh, as for Eric, well, you'd have a better time understanding a toaster oven. The guy's kind of random, and REALLY disorganized, and the textbook's ridiculous...way more than you need to know, and just boring all the while. Though, the course itself IS interesting (or has the potential to be).

Eric is a nice guy but wastes 10-15 minutes ever class setting up. I found the initial lectures interesting. stopped doing all forms of work and somehow got an 85. class was a complete joke.

Okay, so the lectures are a joke (he posts his notes online, but you may want to show up and take notes on discussions). His expectations aren't too clear, but if you try to actually understand the material, and him, you'll do fine. TYLER P. WAS A GOOD TA, HELPED A BUNDLE!!

he's not bad, not bad at all.Initially i didn't like him cuz he was usually late and wastes lecture time; he spends 20 min. setting up and lectures for 10-15 min.But he's knowledgeable and can be entertaining (tho at times he can be juz as boring).Expectations might seem high, but marking is lenient

If you're interested in Linguistics, EVB is awesome. He knows so much, and has a great sense of humour. He doesn't baby-talk though, so if you dont pay attention you'll the terminology. If you just want a filler course though avoid him, you wont like it. He works off the lectures, txbk irrelevant.
