I took his intro to philosophy and loved it. If you respect him and do your work you won't have to deal with his irritated side. Lectures were interesting and he is really funny as well. You can also apply what you learn in his class to every day life. He really makes you think. Overall GOOD GUY!

I like him. Class is boring unless you are super interested in that kind of thing. He is a good teacher, and I enjoy the grin he gets on his face when he makes a joke (rare). Take him. All ethics classes are going to be boring. At least he is a good teacher.

Frith is my favorite professor by far. Not only have I learned about philosophy but I have learned about life as well. I have found the peopl that don't like Frith are generally not serious about school or life. Frith pulls no punches. He lets u know what he expects and does not falter from that position. Go to class, take notes, read your book...

Comment:
Frith is a great teacher but like many Philosophy teachers, they want to leave a legacy behind like the men and women they study which in turn clouds their connection with their students. Tests are straight forward and journals are mandatory. I enjoyed the 3 classes I took with him and he is thought provoking but too fixated on his own ideas.

Professor Frith was one of my best professors. He made the requirements very cut and dry. He challenged your thought process and urged you to grow intellectually. Overll great individual.

Comment:
Academically the class is fairly easy, not that challenging. The challenge is to put up with Frith's personality. As other commenters have indicated, Frith is very stuck on himself, and clearly in love with his own opinions. And if students challenge or disagree with him, even respectfully, he becomes abusive towards them.

Interesting reading these comments. I was taught by Professor frith in 1988 and 1999. He introduced me to my favorite author, Ayn Rand. I graduated from MCC and went on to earn a BS, MPA and MBA. He is one professor that has always stuck in my mind over the years. He was great.

If you don't plan on doing the work you will fail. He has a journal due everyother Friday, which were easy. A test every 2 weeks around 10-16 questions which weren't too difficult. You have an option to read 3 parallel books, I recommend you read all 3. His final is answering 3 questions of what you learned. There were no presentations. TAKE NOTES!

While I understand that his voice can be a bit monotone, his class is NOT hard. He just requires you to do the work (shocking I know) people who say his class is hard are clearly used to being spoon fed knowledge. He is always helpful and willing to answer questions. I have learned more about myself in this class than I would have expected.

Frith is brilliant. He's been teaching at the college for over 50 years and it shows. He has very little patience for those who do not follow the rules or fail to treat his classroom with respect. Easy, yet rewarding class that I would recommend to anyone.

Loved the class, very interesting and intruiging. He knows what he is talking about. You do have to work for your grade, but you gain a lot of knowledge from doing so in his class.

I have a 4.0 GPA and this was the hardest class I have ever took. All of the comments on here are completely true. Usually I find that ratemyprofessor is used by students who don't try and use the site to whine. However, this professor was horrible! He put me asleep every class!

Has a tendency to discourage people saying that his tests are of "eigth grade level" when they are not. Claims in the beginning that you will not be tested on text reading, but sneeks questions in on the quiz not covered in class. Rambles. Intelligent person but rather self absorbed and focuses only on personal philosophy. Great parallel readings.

Spent 1hr explaining three simple topics.Never completes one w/out going off on nonrelated tangents, then comes back to topic for 1 sentence, then off again.Very controling, dont sit in the wrong seat or else.Should have retired when ink pens were invented but declares his love of youth and teaching. Is so out of touch/date he thinks he is "HIP".AVOID

Prof Frith is a totally self absorbed, conceited old man. I felt like gouging my eyes out everytime I heard him repeat, "I know many things" and "I golf with the mayor". He claims to "strive to make fair exams" when really he just hand picks the most arcane, obscure details to see if you read the text. Easy but painful A.

Thought this class would be easy, think again. You have to take really good notes during his lecture if you don't fall asleep. Attendance and videos are MANATORY! Final paper is 10 pages at least, but isn't very hard. His tests seemed like trick questions. Wish he would just retire.

Frith is one badass dude. His class was fun and he seems like a very intelligence person. Everything he says is cumulative and based on logic. I enjoyed his course (applied ethics) and would definitely recommend it! did I mention how bad ass his beard was?

Positives: Very well educated in his teaching area, very thorough, very fair. If you're perfect, you'll get an A+. Negatives: Very unforgiving, VERY egotistical, very long-winded, very opinionated. If you're anything but perfect, you'll fail. His lectures will make you consider suicide. His monotone voice will put you to sleep.

When I first started this class I thought it would be difficult, but in fact it isn't that hard. Just read the text and watch the videos he assigns. He is a very good professor and I would love to take another one of his classes.
