very important to read the book and it would help to go to class because a lot of questions from the exam come from class discussions. Class is pretty boring but you get extra credit if you participate. Only 3 exams so make sure you study. Not mandatory to come to class but there are pop quizzes every other class. One optional extra credit paper

Nixon is a very nice guy, but his class was very difficult. Attendance not mandatory however he gives random pop-quizzes so make sure to go to every class unless you want to miss a possible quiz.

Very few grades so the exams matter the most. Pop quizzes throughout the semester. He means very well but he doesn't tell you what you need to know he just talks about random topics from the textbook for a long time and never mentions other topics but they end up on the test. He is difficult

vey few grades. entirely book and lecture based. one in class activity. extra credit paper and lots of extra credit opportunities. sweet guy, really wants everyone to succeed and will help talk you through everything. I liked him a lot, his class was just a struggle.

I wouldn't recommend taking Nixon if you don't have a genuine interest in sociology. He's passionate about what he's teaching but his lectures can get very dry. Assigned readings are mandatory if you want an A. However, he's a nice man and if you're willing to show up, pay attention, and do the work, you will learn a lot from him

class can be boring sometimes but he tries to be funny and keep you excited about it.encourages students to talk and debate issues at their own discretion.very nice man offers A LOT of extra credit, wants everyone to be successful in class. tests arent hard if you pay attention in class.final isn't cumulative.really not a bad class

His class is all lecture based. It's not that difficult but the tests are. You need to read and study but if you do that you will be fine. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and wants you to pass. He is a nice man just go to class, read and participate and you'll do fine

I wasnt entirely interested in the subject so it was hard for me to follow concepts that others thought were "easy." Gives 3 exams and you only have to write 1 paper and it's optional. Both books are necessary and you have to read them. He never fully answered your ?s. Gives participation points every time you raise your hand. Don't miss his class!

sociology of sport was one of the best courses i have taken at towson. Class is difficult and attenddance is mandatory but definitly worth taking the class with professor nixon.

Pretty difficult class. Required 3 textbooks! 2 1000 word papers, 2 all essay exams. Attendance is mandatory- you cannot get an A if you miss JUST one class!! Participation is mandatory also to get a B or better. So ridiculous. Most boring class I've taken yet at Towson. Avoid Howard Nixon if at all possible.

Very Very hard . No power point just strictly lecture. Participation is mandatory considering you get a point for each time you raise your hand. cannot miss class or you get deducted points each class. mid terms and finals require to stay in certain lines. makes me feel like a elementary student. NOT INTERESTING AT ALL

DO NOT TAKE HIM. if you can give him exactly what he wants you'll get an A+. GOOD LUCK figuring out what that is. I have 3.8 GPA and its the WORST class I think I will ever take. Pick a different seminar, trust me. Everyone was miserable.

DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!! HE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER AND HIS TESTS ARE VERY HARD!! Dont take this professor. He lectures every class and zero percent of his lectures are useful. Class perticipation is mandatory for a good grade. A test, a midterm, and a finial.. maybe one more inbetween. Test are multible choice and 4 short answers. Bad professor. Tests are hard. Dont take.
