Knows the material very well but the lectures can drag on sometimes. Exams are straightforward - tells you exactly what to know. Don't need to go to class because the lectures are posted online. Easy A course. Unfortunately, Prof. Clifford passed away on his way to class in Fall 2014 so no one will be able to take his class again.

The Propaganda Films class was very easy, but I think he's tougher on the final exam. He's boring. Midterm was an easy A, but for some reason I got a B- on final. Who knows. You can pretty much watch all the war films at home and Wiki whatever you don't get. Long class but good for maintaining your GPA/good for fulfilling the Poli-Sci requirement.

Not the most stimulating lecturer, but a very obviously knowledgeable guy. Fair exams.

Great professor. Exams are very fair. His lectures are not always thrilling, but very informative and can be pretty interesting. It is clear that he knows his stuff - it's actually really impressive.

John Clifford is an awesome professor. He is like a book. Actually he did write a book (that you will be reading in his class). You don't always have to attend class, as long as you read and know the questions that are going to appear on the exam, and he will tell you what they are.

I took him for Pols, Propaganda & Cinema and it was the easiest class. The movies were interesting, for the most part. He lets you do extra credit AND have a cheat sheet for the exams. He can come across as condescending when you answer a question b.c he is that knowledgeable about the subject but I'd recommend this course. Don't buy the books!

Great professor, very accommodating. The class requires you to go to some of the films in order to get an A. Allows you to do an extra credit paper where you can earn up to 10 points on your average. Easily one of the best classes offered at Uconn.

Awesome guy, pretty funny, really knows his stuff. Can be a little dull when lecturing at length. The movies are all hit or miss. Hands out essay questions for exams, the short answers aren't too difficult if you watched the movies. I've had him for two classes: A- in both. Definitely a gem in the polisci department.

WORST professor I have ever had. All he does is stand in front of the class and drone on monotonously for hours. He knows his stuff like nobody's business, but it's painful watching him pace in circles & stare at the floor while going off on some mumbling, barely audible tangent. Puts a PPT on screen at the start of every class but never refers to

Best professor in the political science dept. And he's soooo funny when he does his impressions of past presidents. I seriously recommend taking a class with him if you can get in.

Prof Clifford may be the best lecturer I've had in 3 years of college. He knows his material inside and out. The only knock is its hard to keep up with notes during lecture so you have to do reading on your own. If you dont mind doing some reading on a good topic though, he is one the best you can get.

American Diplomacy and Politics, Propaganda, & Cinema are great classes. Teacher knows his material, tests are easy if you take notes or read his book. You watch good WW2 movies in propaganda class.

a very nice guy. show interest in the class and he will take care of you. he gives you the essay question on the test before hand, so it could be worse. you NEED to read, but its not to much so its not a bad class at all

Clifford's propaganda class is fun, but like most of his classes, it's straight lecture (although here most of class is filled with movies) and not especially difficult.

Lectures are engaging historical narratives. He is reasonable, and students need only to read the text in preparation for the lectures and his essay tests in order to do well. There is no "busy work" or gratuitous assignments in this class.
