You won't get good grades unless you watch his lectures at least two times and read the books carefully. Many exams, lots of materials covered, hard to remember. Very mean grader, and he deducts points on very small grammatical mistakes, and he also may not reply to your email because you got the wrong format. Not very respectful to students.

The material and class itself are not difficult, but it's very difficult to do well on simple assignments because he grades so harshly (will fail a paper if you don't match his exact formatting requirements). Condescending and disrespectful towards students.

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. Horrible Profesor. Tests near impossible. TA's even hated him. Very textbook heavy. Random quizzes in class so attendance is necessary. He does not care about students whatsoever, either. 4 tests and a final. Random projects and reports.

I took his 260 Animal Behavior class as an elective and loved the material. Its incredibly interesting and easy to get into. He teaches with powerpoints that he refuses to post online no matter what but adds in other important facts too. Hes scatterbrained and expects you to follow his guidelines to a T but overall I liked him and the class

Dr. Werren is one of the best profs I've had at UR. His lectures are very organized, his explanations clear, and he's very willing to help. You'll do well if you work hard (like you should). The questions on his exams are a bit ambiguous, but they really show whether the student understands or not. It's the nature of his discipline. Great course!

Comment:
One of the best proffesors I had at UR. His animal behavior class was incredibly interesting. He was definitely tough but fair and he was always willing to help if you had questions. He expects alot but if you do the work you shouldn't have any problems :) I also took my independent research course with him. Like with 260, he tends to be quite strict with what he expects but it wasn't too much to handle and was well worth it for all that I learned :)

When you do an independent research project with him, you'll be able to see the depth of his uptightness. He's very stiff all the time. Never cracks a joke. I've never seen him smile. His face has never even so much as twitched.
